Previous 2014.05.26 available with excellent news

Antergos is a distribution that has been making eyes at me for some time now, and as a good user of Arch Linux I am, I plan to give it a try shortly considering that now it brings very interesting news.

As well described on their website:

The purpose of Antergos is to provide a modern operating system, Elegant and powerful based on one of the the best Linux distributions available, Arch Linux. Users do not have to be experts or developers Linux in order of use Antergos. De Linux users for a long time users Linux de only a few months, Antergos it's for everyone.

The project Antergos originally started under the name cinnarch, and with just a desktop environment. Nowadays, Antergos supports multiple desks allowing users select his favorite during the installation.

What makes Antergos peculiar is that it allows us to install it "easily" using a graphical installer and not with the method normally used by Arch Linux.

And it is precisely one of the novelties of this new version is that from the installer we can choose which Desktop Environment we want to install, and as you can see in the following screenshot, it covers almost all of the most used:

What Anticipagos 2014.05.26 brings us

Thanks to your alliance with the project Numix, Antergos 2014.05.26 It is known beautiful in any of your Desktop Environments, with a flatter appearance (because it is what it takes now) that can be appreciated from the beginning of the installation with cnchi.

Something I loved is the theme for LightDM, made by developer Dustin Falgout, using exclusively web technology. Use HTML, jQuery, and CSS.

On the right side of the screen, we will have a button to choose one of the Antergos default wallpapers and a button to select a random background at each startup. By default, the random function is activated, just click on the one you want to deactivate it.

Thanks to this login experience, in the future the guys at Antergos are thinking of providing the option to easily include their own photos.

Another great feature is the New Hardware Detection Module, developed by Gustau Castells. This app has been greatly improved with this new module and it will install the necessary packages and configurations necessary to make your hardware work.

Antergos has a lot of new features, which you can see at this link. If you wish to download it, you can do it from here:

It really is a very good distro and installs it on 4 four machines and everything luxurious, it also has an installer in the LibreOffice tools where you only install what you require without the need for a novice to enter the terminal, now that "win XP" died with this distro the "shield" (especially with the GNOME desktop environment) and the first thing they drop is "it's okay father my win" ha ha ha. after the laughter, I give them their lecture to educate and cultivate in this universe of linux.

I always wanted to install this distro, but since I am inexperienced, I could never do it, because I do not know if the UEFI, my ATI card or what I know. But I won't have that problem anymore, my TT lap was stolen!

I have the concern to use this distro, but I still don't know if I will be able to adjust to the Gnome-Shell workflow, we will have to find out 😛 Thanks for the article.

Well, download the x64 version check md5. I create my USB "Bootable" as usual (dd command), "boot" from it, I get the start menu with EFI support, I choose the default one as in Arch, and when loading it throws Caching Drive errors on my USB , After 10 minutes it throws me only errors and it never starts, I tried disabling ACPI at startup (apci = o) and nothing, any suggestions?

It looks very good and I might give it a try, but I have a question, I need an internet connection to install it or I can configure the location of a local repo so that it looks for the necessary files there.

hahaj just today before this post I was reviewing some video-distros about antergos and it looks very interesting, the only thing that stops me is that I have tried many arch-based distros and I did not like any.

I wish in my work I could use linux !! snif snif snif !!

I have installed it for a while.

How do I download from a web all the pages that start eg: web.org/cat/etiq/
or from this word onwards: etiq /

wget is very complex and the ejs that I have read do not work for me.

I'm testing it in a virtual machine and so far so good. The truth is that I can't install Arch, since it always gives me an error or something, I'm not convinced by options like Chakra and Kaos because I'm not a big fan of Kde, and Manjaro is pretty bad for me, it always has bugs.
So if Antergos still works this well maybe I would consider putting it on my netbook as it seems like they don't patch things like on Manjaro which could be good as Manjaro patches seem to be giving me those bugs, or maybe I get worse for not having things patched. Maybe someone who has tried arch can clarify this situation for me.

A very interesting distro without a doubt, since it has a careful design but it is still KISS since it does not install more applications than the base of the system plus the environment and then third-party applications that we choose, such as Libreoffice.

I may try it to see how it works on my laptop. Of course, Slackware stays on my servers: D.
Is there someone who is using it and who can contribute their review?

    1.    joakoej said

The most I tried it was in a virtual machine and I installed it today, but everything working that yes, not a bug with any desktop environment or anything. I just don't know how it will behave over time, but it looks very good

      1.    peterczech said

        OK .. Thank you 😀

Hello, at the end I was testing arch, which until recently I had not been able to install due to a problem I had when burning it to a usb, and I tell you that comparing my arch linux desktop with that of Antergos, I came to the conclusion that Antergos is An Arch already configured is exactly the same, I even had the same bugs with Gnome. The only differences are, in short, the appearance of the distro and the things it comes with, and there are a couple of things that can be configured in arch, anyway.
Regarding stability, the only problems that I had were with Gnome, as I said, the other environments worked well. I can't install Antergos on the netbook, but with Arch you can get to an identical desktop, so I'm going to stick with this one, I only have a couple more things to configure, but the system is already working and very well.
I am also considering Fedora as well.

It is a good distro, I have been using it for almost 11 months and the truth is that I have not had problems. And I have installed it on 3 different laptops and on my desktop pc. To the latter I installed the latest version (with cinnamon) and the truth is that the artwork is one of the best. I recommend 100% (if you have problems with Arch installation or do not have much time for it)

How good this distro looks, it hurts that I am not very friendly with Arch, I would like something like that to exist in Debian.

    Hello
I have Manjaro installed on 2 machines
I had never read about Antergos and immediately the article caught my attention
What is the difference between these 2 distributions?
    regards

What a manjaro patches the packages seems to me. Also, Manjaro has other repositories divided into unstable, testing and stable. On the other hand, Antergos is a purer Arch.

      1.    joakoej said

At least that's what it seemed to me, but maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, it seems to me that Antergos has much higher quality than Manjaro, the latter has too many bugs for my liking

Did you solve the problems with the installer? Too many problems when I wanted to install it about three weeks ago, whether or not you selected the applications as libreoffice would download and install all the applications the same, in addition to taking a long time with the installation, the two times I installed it, the grub charged me.

  14.   aphanic said

Well, I also have to give it a trip to see how it is, when I read the title of the article I think "Hmm ... Antergos is" ancestors "in Galician ... is it related to Cinnarch?" and then everything was confirmed haha.

The only downside is that it forces you to have internet to install.

Yes, that of having to have an internet connection to install is a horror.

I never used an Arch based distro and I am currently settled in my lovely Elementary.
But always, since my beginnings in Linux, I heard two things said, "Debian is wonderful" and "Archlinux, you compose it from 0 and it will never give you headaches"

I almost thought of jumping into an Arch distro ...

Very good, I tried it a long time ago and the graphical installer was still very green, but now, still not finished, it is quite good.
In fact, I am writing from Antergos KDE, and I have made very few changes, the alliance with numix is the best visually speaking, the stability (I have only been there for a day) is excellent and I am thinking a lot about leaving it installed on my laptop.

    A greeting.

I had Manjaro and Kaos installed on my laptop. I was happy with Manjaro, but it gave me problems with one of its updates, which I was able to solve thanks to the forums. Kaos is very good. I use KDE and it is excellent. But I wanted to install an Arch distribution, and as everywhere they talk about the complication of doing it from scratch, upon learning about the existence of this distribution (thanks to Yoyo0, for which I had also entered Kaos), I dared to install it. The installer has not given me any problems (it installed libreoffice). Then I installed firefox. I only had a problem with a kde applet, but thanks to the blog «El cajón del gato» it is already solved. In short, for now much more than remarkable.

I am the same since since yesterday I read and read more and more about this distro both in http://yoyo308.com/ as http://viveantergos.blogspot.com.es/ among others..

And if it is convincing me .. The dilemma I have is the environment that I will use since I am between KDE, Openbox and Gnome .. Yes Gnome since I am liking the Gnome of the Antegos live 😀

  18.   jorgemanjarrezlerma said

I have tried all Arch based distros and the truth is that they do not last me even 3 days when I am back in Arch.

Although Manjaro is a very good distro, just like KAOS they just can't convince me and manjaro in particular performs much slower than Arch (in any DE or WM). I am going to take advantage of the fact that I have planned to install Arch with AWESOME on a PC that I have around to test Antegros and I will tell you how it behaves.

    regards

It happens to me just the opposite, only the issue of having to configure the fonts, so that they look exactly like Ubuntu, makes me lose hours, because just installing the Ubuntu packages, cairo etc, doesn't quite look right.

I have been using Antergos and it simplifies the Arch installation a lot. Gnome Shell is very fluid and we can customize it at will for the Arch repos and the AUR

Cheers …. do you need to create a separate partition for / boot?

If yes, what kind of format can ext2 or ext4 be given and why?

    Distro: Antergos (Arch)

    1.    joakoej said

It is not necessary, but it can be useful if you have a boot problem with the system, it is easier to solve it if you have a separate boot partition. The recommended size for this item is 500mb and regarding the format, I don't have much idea which one is recommended, but for example my Fedora automatically formatted it in ext4, so at least I know ext4 works fine with that partition.

  21.   jamin samuel said

Any screenshots of how Antergos looks with Cinnamon?

  22.   Tucked said

It looks handsome but the GNOME-Shell version is a bit "out of date" XD

Someone has been able to install this 64-bit distro from a USB drive (flash drive or pendrive). I tried the unetbootin and liliusb creator, but neither of them has managed to fully boot.

    Thanks in advance

You should try dd, it is a utility used by console to burn images to disks. The command would be something like this:

dd if = / place where the image is of = / dev / sdx

For example: dd if = / home / user / antergos-2014.iso of = / dev / sdb (assuming the disk is in / dev / sdb, this is checked with gparted or some similar program)

Although, it didn't work this way for me either

    2.    David said

I installed it from a usb without problem. I always put the image with the dd command as explained above. Where does it stay? Have you checked that it has been downloaded correctly? Greetings 🙂
