Nextmox_VE

Just made known the launch of the new version of Proxmox VE (Virtual Environment) 6.3, a specialized distribution Linux based on Debian GNU / Linux, intended for the implementation and maintenance of virtual servers using LXC and KVM and capable of acting as replacement products such as VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V and Citrix Hypervisor.

Proxmox VE provides the means to implement a virtual server system turnkey industrial grade web-based to manage hundreds or even thousands of virtual machines.

The distribution has built-in tools to organize backup of virtual environments and support for clustering available out of the box, including the ability to migrate virtual environments from one node to another without interrupting work.

Among the features of the web interface: support for a secure VNC console; role-based access control to all available objects (VM, storage, nodes, etc.); support for various authentication mechanisms (MS ADS, LDAP, Linux PAM, Proxmox VE authentication).

About the new version of Proxmox VE 6.3

In this new version we can find that the system has been synchronized with the base of the Debian 10.6 package "Buster", along with which Ceph Octopus 15.2.6, QEMU 5.1 and ZFSonLinux 0.8.5 were updated, while the packages that have not been updated are the Linux kernels 5.4 and LXC 4.0.

Another novelty that stands out in this new version is that integration with Proxmox Backup Server, along with which support was added for encrypting backups on the client side before copying them to the server.

In the web interface, the boot sequence editor has been improved of the virtual machine, the ability to select multiple devices to boot (disk, network boot) and boot from PCI (NVMe) devices forwarded to the virtual machine has been added.

An interface for editing external servers has been proposed to send metrics: Proxmox VE nodes can now be linked to InfluxDB or Graphite using the GUI, without the need to manually edit /etc/pve/status.cfg.

Besides that the ability to verify TLS certificates for LDAP and AD was implemented.

The backup management interface provides a list of guest systems for which no backups have been created. Added detailed report on each backup job and guest disk coverage.

A flexible mechanism has been added to manage the number of copies remaining security. In addition to setting the maximum number of copies, you can now determine how many copies should be kept in a period of time.

Of the Other changes that stand out from the new version:

  • Improved support for high pixel density displays.
  • Container support added with Devuan and Kali Linux distributions. Updated supported versions of Ubuntu, Fedora and CentOS.
  • Container launch monitoring was improved and the ability to bind a separate time zone to a container was added.
  • The installer provides an automatic restart after a successful installation. Support for the ext3 file system has been removed.
  • The third virtual console runs a command shell for debugging during installation.
  • Better matching of ICMP packet types on the firewall management interface.

Is it known if they will have an interface for multiple datacenters? Like xencenter, for example.

    All the best
