Purism today announced that its upcoming security and privacy focused Linux mobile, Librem 5, has been delayed to the third quarter of 2019.
Initially planned for the start of 2019, the Librem 5 mobile was delayed to April 2019 and now suffers another delay due to CPU choice that the development team has to do to have a more stable and reliable device that will not get too hot or download fast.
The development team had to choose between i.MX8M Quad and i.MX8M Mini processors for their mobile, but after many tests they decided on the i.MX8M Quad as the manufacturer released an update that solves power and overheating problems .
Updated features for the Librem 5
To keep things interesting, Purism updated the features of the Librem 5, which will come with a 5.5 or 5.7 Inch screen in HD resolution, i.MX8M Quad processor, 32 GB eMMC internal storage, Wireless 802.11 a / b / g / n 2.4Ghz + 5Ghz, Bluetooth 4 and Gemalto PLS8 3G / 4G modem with a single SIM slot.
In addition, the device will have support for 2FF smart cards, at least one speaker and support for MicroSD cards. The data from the cameras has not been released yet, but Purism has said that the device will have a USBC connector, USB client function, USB host function and power delivery.
A 9-axis accelerometer, magnetometer, gyroscope and a vibration motor are added. The device, which will have a replaceable battery, has the particularity of having three buttons to completely disable WiFi, cell phone, microphone and camera.
