Q4OS 4.0 Gemini now ready for testing and Q4OS 3.10 Centaurus now stable for Raspberry Pi

Q4OS

During this last fortnight of February, the developers who are in charge of Q4OS released two news very important, lThe first of these was the release of the development version of Q4OS 4.0 which will have the code name "Gemini" and the other news that was barely made known was the stabilization of the build of Q4OS 3.10 version Centaurus for Raspberry Pi.

For those who do not know about Q4OS, they should know that is a Linux distribution German based on open source Debian with a light interface and friendly to the novice user, offering a desktop environment called Trinity, also known as TDE Trinity Desktop Environment, similar to Windows XP and Windows 7 directly. It focuses on long-term stability, safety, speed, and reliability.

About Q4OS

This Linux distribution, along with others like Chalet OS3 and Zorin OS, has an approach specifically geared towards users familiar with Windows, with an appearance previously configured to be similar to that of that Microsoft Operating System.

Like Linux Lite does, Q4OS also allows you to reuse those old computers, abandoned somewhere due to hardware limitations, on which Windows XP was previously running, that is, low-resource computers, on which the most modern versions of Windows no longer work.

Given this need, Q4OS was born, even though it was created long before Microsoft announced the end of support for Windows XP.

Con the mission to deliver a fast and powerful operating system based on the latest technologies while offering a highly productive desktop environment.

About the new version Q4OS 4.0 Gemini

This new branch of development of Q4OS 4.0 with code name “Gemini” arrives based on the development branch of Debian which is Debian "Bullseye" and that the Q4OS developers mention that work will be done on Q4OS 4.0 development until Debian “Bullseye” is stable, so this version will be marked as "development version" for at least one or two years.

Of the characteristics mentioned of this new branch is that it will have five years of support as of the release date and that, unlike the previous installation media, Q4OS 4.0 Gemini will integrate a complete desktop software packageo.

However, users can ask the desktop profiling tool to delete the target system in one of the predefined so-called 'Software Profiles' throughout the installation process.

As such, they mention that this new version will come with its own exclusive features and utilities, such as the one already mentioned. 'Desktop profiler' for profiling in different professional work tools, 'Setup utility' for trouble-free installation of third-party applications, among other things.

For those of you who don't know, TDE is a fork of KDE 3 made by people who didn't like the direction KDE 4 was taking.

It's not that it's like Windows XP or 7, it's that these people customize it as such, I imagine to attract Windows users.

This distro comes with two desktops to choose from, with TDE or with Plasma. I've tried both and it works great with both desktops.

Personally I have been able to verify that it is going very well and with the longing for old times enters you although that if it is very stable and fast in this distro.

I don't know, just as Mate is promoted as a substitute for Gnome 2, I don't know why almost no one promotes TDE as a substitute for KDE 3 for all those people who prefer that desktop. Personally, I always loved KDE 3 although now I'm very used to Plasma, it doesn't mean that this desktop is very good.
