Red Hat joins the Billion Dollar club

Who does not know Red Hat?

Una distro that has been criticized many times, mainly because it only focuses on OS for servers, for focusing more (according to personal points of view of each one) more on profits, income, business and somewhat less in a "community" sense and in favor of the Free software.

Either way, generating income is a priority for anyone, because without it, no matter how promising the project seems, if it has zero chances of generating a profit, it will almost certainly fail.

Many others have already generated extraordinary figures by making use of Free software u Open Source, example of this is IBM, Google, we could also include Facebook and many others, however they are companies whose business is NOT entirely support and services for GNU / Linux, hence the importance of this news.

Happens that Red Hat is the first of its kind that achieves revenue of one billion dollars (one trillion dollars). Putting numbers, which is what most catches our attention: in this first quarter of the year, Red Hat entered some 281.3 million dollars, which is nothing more and nothing less than a increase in the 28% of your income in the same quarter but the previous year. Basically and putting it simply, in the first quarter of this year, Red Hat had almost a 30% more profit than the previous year in the same months.

But this is not all, because in this same quarter of the year, it obtained income from subscriptions of 238.3 million dollars, exactly 28% more than its income from subscriptions in the same months the previous year. And ... what are those subscriptions? As I understand it, they are clients who purchase Red Hat services, who buy service packages from them but have not yet begun to use them, that is ... that X client pays Red Hat so that in 2013 they will mount a Communications Node with all servers on Red Hat, guaranteed support, etc. This I repeat, is according to what I understood, obviously I can be more than wrong, however the central idea is the profits ... those numbers are really impressive or not? HAHA.

Because of these numbers, it is that Jim Whitehurst (Red Hat CEO) is almost absolutely certain that by the end of fiscal year 2012, Red Hat will be the first of its kind to acquire a trillion dollars in revenue.

Canonical almost earns annual revenue of $ 30 millionCompared to Red Hat… isn't that child's play? LOL!!!

Every day more similar projects acquire considerable profits, one of the "last" to appear is Android, and when I say "latest" I mean "new."

With this it is more than proven, with GNU / Linux and basing the business on support and services, it is possible to obtain impressive profits, Mozilla is just one more example on the list, along with Red Hat and many others 🙂

So… come on, who gets motivated and founds a new company to earn a few million? LOL!!!

It is not because of malmeter, but Red Hat is one of the companies that contributes the most, precisely by paying its engineers to develop software (which then almost all distros end up implementing).

PS: You go for my RSS!

Of course, it is undoubtedly one of the first 3 companies that contribute the most to the code, in fact ... I think it is the 1st. However, his "path" is not to the liking of many, but obviously each does not have his point of view haha, this is only mine, I respect each one 😉

For example, Canonical's contributions in terms of code as such are almost nil, however it has contributed very importantly in other ways, but hey ... I don't want to sound like a fan of Canonical or Ubuntu (which I'm not haha) .

Thank you very much for your comment and haha, an honor that you do us by putting us in your RSS 😀… really thanks 🙂

I didn't mean for my comment to sound like fan-redhat (or whatever they are called…)! Of course, all companies have their pluses and minuses and each contributes in its own way.
And thanks to you, see you around here 😉

Not at all, at least I didn't think you were a fan or follower of Red Hat hahaha 🙂
Greetings and once again thank you for your comments.

You are right in what you say, Red Hat is one of those that contributes the most, especially if we consider that most of the developers of many important projects (such as Gnome) are part of that company.
