In my particular case, I also followed this other tutorial.
One day I was fucked, I told myself, I'm going to install it Cyanogenmod to my newly purchased Samsung Galaxy S3.
And why Cyanogenmod? Very good question. exist lots of custom ROMs which can customize the phone more than the factory ROM. Cyanogenmod is just one. One that pretends to be like Debian, stable as a rock, capable of being installed on any phone, with its own development and open on functionalities that Android does not yet officially support, etc. I guess they added it to the prism-break site because that's where Replicant OS is based.
And why not Replicant? Because the camera has non-free firmware and that's why it is not supported. I can deactivate the WIFI and use mobile broadband (which is only useful if you are far from a computer with internet access), I can deactivate the GPS and ask the weather program that I enter the city manually ………… .but without camera NO. And if it were simple install Firefox OS, I would have tried it.
Anyway, I installed it and I liked it. The only difficulty with Cyanogenmod is learning how to install it if you are using stable images, but you learn how to install it and that's it. I can tweak the CPU frequency to use less battery, it comes with Clockwork Recovery and some apps for the basics. Nothing special.
The first thing I did was install the F-Droid, which is like the Play Store but only with free software. Then investigate what there is to put my cell phone among the 747 available applications ……. I see among other things:
- AdAway and AdBlock Plus: Decisions, decisions. An ad blocker that asks to be root or an ad blocker that tracks ……… ah, I choose the first one.
- AFWall +: A firewall, I'm taking it, in case AdAway isn't enough.
- Alarm Klock: A customizable alarm for what I want (to feel the alarm at six thirty in the morning to wake up at eight and arrive at work a few minutes after nine)
- Bankdroid: If I had an account with a bank in Sweden, it would be useful to me.
- Bysyklist Oslo: If I had to search for bikes in Oslo, it would be useful to me.
- Coin Flip: Why use a real coin, if there is already an application.
- Diaspora WebClient: If it didn't crash when opened, a star would be helpful ……….
- Diode: A client for reddit. If anyone is interested….
- DotDash Keyboard: -. -.-. .- .. .- - .. -. -. - - .-. ….
- DuckDuckGo: Since I'm used to using it on the computer, why not?
- External IP: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. Many thanks.
- File Manager: A file manager should come out of the box.
- GameBoid and GBCoid: For nostalgic people ……………
- Gibberbot: Messaging with OTR. Still very green, but the one concerned about their safety has their alternative.
- HNDroid: A client for news.ycombinator. If anyone is interested….
- Japanese Name Converter: I can't write it. I don't have a ponja keyboard.
- Lil Debi: That's right. Debian on your phone with ARM architecture.
- MorbidMeter: I'm not going to try it ………
- Obsqr: A QR code scanner.
- Octodroid and OASVN: Github and SVN clients for Android. Because hackers also develop on their phones.
- Orbot and Orweb: Tor for Android. Just in case I install it.
- Periodical: Only for women.
- Pocket Talk: .- ... . .-. -. -. … .- .—. …. -. - - .-. ….
- Quake 1 and 2: There is no sound.
- Rage Maker: I like it.
- Remembeer: Only for drinkers.
- SandwichRoulette: Only for those who want to fill the phone with applications, like their stomachs.
- Seeks: Someday I have to talk about decentralized search in this series.
- Plain Dilbert:
Dilbert: We lost all our data and our backups. So I hacked into the government database where they kept records of everything we said and did and I got it all back.
PHB (Boss Pelopunta): I feel like I should be doing something right now.
Dilbert: Nah, everything works fine.
- Tinfoil for Facebook: Find the app and understand the irony.
- XKCDViewer: Very good idea.
Too bad there is no Libreoffice for Android, so you wouldn't need several separate applications to work there. I suppose that in the play store you can find more free applications, if it were not for the fact that there is no filter for the license.
I am looking for Uruguay in the Play Store and nothing surprises me. Many wallpapers, applications to listen to the radio, read the newspapers …… ..The constitution on my phone? pff that is free in text ………
¿STM Montevideo? How unfair life is, in F-Droid I can see the source code of an application to look for bicycles in Oslo but there is no source code to know which bus to take in Montevideo to go from one place to another …… .. Forget it, the quartermaster was kind enough to release your geolocation framework. I mean, I have half a cooked chicken, I have to learn to cook… I say programming.
AAAAAAH NO. NONONONNONONONO. That if not. Pepe's button panel does. Android developers, don't be turnips. Either they get excited about publishing their source code …… ..or we end up being a frankfurter, TAAA?
In summary: If I want to install something, I will first find if it is in F-Droid and then in the Play Store. Next time I will look for a paper on decentralized search and I will tell you about search engines.
I have F-droid and there are already several CMs on the way for the Galaxy Mini Plus (aka GT-S5570I), exactly 7 and, if I remember correctly a 9, partly thanks to the Cyanos kernel (which I have installed).
They are still green and some things do not work, but something is something.
Let's see if they launch a stable one soon to install it ^^
Sorry for the Off peeeeeeeeero… Nintendo WTF !!!!! ?????
It's because I wrote from the Nintendo 3DS browser
And the horniest of all, the user-agent says Mozilla, but uses the Webkit XD engine
Ahh I did not know that the Nintendo 3DS had Internet xD, I'm a little uninterested with those gadgets xD
Is that Wi-Fi has reached the mushroom kingdom.

Interesting article 🙂
The Cyanogen is very good, although I would install both the F-Droid and Google Play because I have already become dependent on certain applications (such as Winamp and Opera Mini) that I cannot find in F-Droid.
Let's see if I change the flash to my Samsung Galaxy Mini for the Cyanogen, but I hope it doesn't leave me without Wi-Fi (since I mostly use my smartphone as a Wi-Fi antenna until I manage to get a little money to buy my USB Wi-Fi antenna for my Workstation).
I have Cyanogenmod in my LG Optimus Pro .. ..and it works a lot better than the software that comes from the factory ..
It is stable..I recommend it to anyone who has the same phone .. .. I particularly liked the customization that allowed me to have this OS ..
Let's see if it will give me the leather to get a Motorola HD Maxx, which is also supported by Cyanogenmod in stable .. 😀
This is my favorite ROM: D, I would only recommend you to find out if a cook (the one who makes the ROMs) makes unofficial versions in case your device does not appear in the list of compatible ones.
As for F-Droid, if you activate the anti-features, even more open-source applications will appear (although not so much for the most purists) available, in this way (to give an example) they will be able to install Firefox. The combination of Cyanogenmod and F-Droid I highly recommend, you can enjoy a complete experience on your phones / tablets without depending on Google "services", total in the Play Store the vast majority of apps are just advertising in disguise.
no wonder I couldn't find firefox …….
And will there be Iceweasel for Android? Because Iceweasel is doing so well for me that he gets along so well with XFCE {sarcasm} >> http://elationcreations.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/snow-weasel-2.jpg
I tried Cyanogen for a few days but what goes, in the end I always return to MIUI, this rom comes with a luxury integration.
Is there Chromium (not Chrome) for Android?
Believe it or not, yes. The bad thing about Chromium is that it is not in the Play Store, so you have to go to chromium.org and go to Getting Started, Get the latest trunk of Chromium, click on the link that is in non-easy steps.
But do I have to compile it for my computer or are the APKs available?
Can it be used in Gingerbread?
From what I told you, it is also in ARM, and there is no problem.
What if it's free, how come it's not in F-Droid?
Possibly it is because F-Droid prefers GPL licensed software than others like BSD.
Orbot comes with BSD license
Chromium apk are generated daily, there is no one who has been worrying about releasing versions parallel to those of Chrome as in the distros.
I installed Chromium, what a disappointment.
it's just an HTML viewer and a URL bar, nothing more.
It doesn't even have a menu, favorites, history, nothing.
Apparently Google is not interested at all in developing a decent Chromium for Android, they only use it for development tests and then make it proprietary by passing it to Chrome.
Too bad the only good free browser for android that we have is just Firefox. the bad thing is that the performance of Firefox in Gingerbread ArmV6, is horrible.
I am using the Tint Browser
That's what I was telling you about Chromium, there is no developer who has bothered to make a new interface, the closest thing to a Chromium for Android is the new Opera (only available for ICS devices or higher).
Or the Coast for the iPad created by the same Opera developers that uses gestures to navigate.
In the case of Chromium for desktop, the advancement of the interface is quite remarkable. The only thing that fails is in the operation of the certifications (which annoys me when entering paypal).
Let's see if I can install Chromium for Android, since the default browser has the webkit engine but the battery consumption is really horrible.
The only thing I can't find in F-Droid is a decent music player.
I tried Apollo, but it is very unstable and has many bugs, also it does not have an equalizer.
I tried Just Player, but it consumes too many resources and is very unstable.
I don't like how the factory player organizes artists by album, besides not having an equalizer.
I tried the Vanilla Player, but it didn't work for me, it crashed.
There is no good free alternative when it comes to music players
Vanilla Player is doing very well for me, but I agree with Apollo.
I think Apollo is an excellent player, but only in Cyanogenmod, since it comes integrated with this ROM and in addition to CM it does come with an equalizer.
I have CM 10.1 in my S3 mini and it is a luxury. Everything is better than with the stock rom, at least for my usage needs.
I had no idea of the existence of F-Droid ... I'm going to try to install and test it.
Thanks for the article, keep bringing these topics so varied and interesting.
I have it in a Mini 2, a device that Samsung left behind in terms of updates ... that's the good thing about CM, that you can revive and keep updated to a terminal left aside due to the programmed obsolescence existing in smartphones, purchases an X device and the following year the upgraded version comes out with double the RAM, double the CPU, double the screen density, double the camera resolution and half the battery life.
And I barely have the original Galaxy mini >> http://www.samsung.com/es/consumer/mobile-phone/smartphones/galaxy/GT-S5570EGAFOP << and the truth is that it really is good, as long as you give it "Delete data" after having updated the updates in order to eliminate the residual APK's.
There is already what looks like a fork (although it doesn't seem like they have really changed anything) of Apache Open Office for android, AndrOpen Office https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andropenofficeAlthough from what they say it works very precisely on a mobile phone, it may be that on a tablet the matter is different, but that if it offers everything that the office suite has
