FreeBSD 9.0 released

I bring excellent news to lovers of BSD (because man does not only live on GNU / Linux), and it is that version 9.0 of FreeBSD which is dedicated to Dennis M Ritchie.

The changes are interesting to me. From the outset this version includes Gnome 2.32.1 instead of gnome-shell, and KDE 4.7.3, the desktop preferred apparently by the users of this OS. FreeBSD it is available for various architectures: amd64, i386, ia64, powerpc, powerpc64, y sparc64.

Let's see the most relevant news:

  • A new installer (bsdinstall) has been added and is the installer used by the ISO images part of this release
  • The fast filesystem now supports softupdates.
  • ZFS updated to version 28.
  • Updated ATA / SATA with AHCI support.
  • High availability of storage in the framework (HAST).
  • Kernel support for Capsicum Capability Mode, an experimental set of sandboxing support features.
  • The TCP / IP stack now supports congestion from five available control algorithm implementations.
  • Updated NFS, and new support for NFSv4, in addition to NFSv3 and NFSv2.
  • High performance SSH (HPN-SSH).

Among other features that you can see in this link.

And what for a laptop ??? I remember that someone was going to try it (it seems to me that it was the 8.x branch) and it did not have support for SATA disks. I'll try and tell you later.

It doesn't work for me, neither free bsd nor pc bsd, it gives me an error in the boot, I don't know why 🙁

Can you tell us the exact error?

The program does not tell me, the pc bsd loads everything, once loaded the screen remains black and I progress. I have no idea xD

I must confess that freeBSD is a pending task that I have. But having to depend on the internet, it happens to me almost the same as with Arch.

I am curious to use this system, just how much time I have.
I have read that it is more recommended for a server than for use as a desktop system, but since mine is pure work on my lap, zero games, I think I can use it.

The problem for desktop work is because of the development cycle, because Linux applications run on BSD.

But if you don't need the update, it works perfectly

And is it compatible with the EFI of the Macbook or do you have to have a Bootcamp to be able to boot? I have it with Linux and it boots without problems, but I would like to know if with BSD it has the native support with EFI
    regards

I want to install FreeBSD, but first I want to see desktop images and FreeBSD tutorials, and I can't find them. Does anyone know where I can find it?
That by the way they need to put more FreeBSD content 😀 I know that it will not be something simple.

If it is not at all simple but here you find everything you need, also googling. http://www.freebsd.org/es/
