Ryzom is a fantasy and science fiction massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed by Nevrax. This game is free, open source, and cross-platform (Microsoft Windows, OS X, and Linux). It is licensed under the GPL , a Creative Commons license, and has a partnership with the Free Software Foundation to host a repository of the game's artistic assets.

Ryzom is one of the few commercially available open-source MMORPGs : client, server, tools, and media. This means it attracts a vibrant community that provides fixes and features far beyond what the internal team can do.

This game can be acquired for free through Steam and the Apple Store , although it is important to note that despite being free and open source, the game has a paid mode (freemium).

In this mode, those who pay a modest monthly, quarterly, semi-annual or annual amount are given a bonus in which certain features of the game are unlocked and certain bonuses are offered: the opportunity to develop their character to level 250 instead 125, double the experience points earned and give access to different storage media.

The game takes place on Atys, a charming and unique planet formed by the gigantic growth of vegetation with excessive root systems. It is populated by intelligent plants, harmless herbivores, but also formidable predators.

About Ryzom

At the beginning of the game you can choose a character from one of the four humanoid races that populate : Fyros, Matis, Trykers and Zoraïs, and choose to join one of the factions in the game: the Kamists or the Karavaniers, marauding explorers.

The various creatures in Ryzom have different AI based on their species, this allows them to be able to perform many realistic behaviors such as: migration and movement as a herd. Carnivores, for example, will attack certain animals for food and certain animals will hunt in packs.

The game also features changing seasons and weather . Weather effects include rain, snow, and wind. Tied to the seasons and weather changes are the movements of animals and the availability of usable materials.

For example, a certain type of sap can only be harvested during spring rains and cannot be obtained during other seasons or weather conditions.

Weather conditions can change minute by minute. Each game season (spring, summer, fall and winter) lasts four days in real time.

Each character gains levels independently in the weapon-oriented combat, magic, crafting, and harvesting fields simply by performing appropriate actions (killing enemies with a sword to fight, assembling jewelry to craft, etc.)

Each level gained in one of these fields grants the character 10 skill points that can be spent on new skills specific to that field, on general character improvements, or simply saved.
