Two little tidbits: The first is the release of the new iso from Sabayon, the Gentoo-based distro geared toward beginners and Out of the Box fans (KISSers abstain). This iso comes with kernel 3.8.8 (although the newly released kernel 3.9 will soon arrive in the repositories), GNOME 3.6.3, KDE 4.10.2, Xfce 4.10, MATE 1.6 and Libreoffice 4. Now the UEFI support is official and Secureboot, and with this iso they will start the migration to systemd. About the version number of this release, I asked Fabio Erculiani if from now on they will do monthly releases like Arch. Fabio told me that more or less, they have a monthly cronjob that makes the images and that if according to him they are fine, throws them.

The second: The TuxRadar site made this new guide to choose between 50 distros, this time with more variable values. Ranges from 1 to 99 are the preferences for desktop environments, in case it is for a server or a desktop, stability vs bleeding edge, the age of the machine and configurability vs ease of use. And also to indicate the parcel preference.

And well, have a happy first of May.
I think with that last link you just killed my post (I was kidding, your news is great and there are several websites that help you find your Linux distro).
Downloading…
I would like to see a post here about Frugalware, whenever I do this survey it comes out among the first 10 options and I have no idea about it.
Frugalware is a kind of Slackware with Pacman geared towards intermediates. I tried it in virtualbox and it is ugly to begin with.
you're right, I tried it a few hours ago in a VM and it's horrible, even making the partitions is complicated since it's done with the command line, also I formatted the / boot to ext2 but it came out as ext4 and when I finished installing it didn't even GRUB started.
See a review

Debian always comes out first for me and that is why I want the newest packages XD. Sabayon I tried it in version 10 and it is very good, if I had the same community that Arch I would keep it.
I tried the installation last night but something very strange happened to me, no distro has ever caused me problems when installing and this in addition to forcing me to create a separate partition for / boot / efi (something that no other has forced me or needed) . It throws me an error that my partition table must be gpt, which I repeat, no distro had required me, it goes without saying that in the installation via text I got the same result.
You can use the guided install and voila.
Change to systemd: (…, the only thing that bothered me about sabayon is that pulseaudio must have some bug, because I can't make it sound completely right .. -.-
Apart from using Arch, do you still have Sabayon? .. - If so, are you still in Gnome Shell or did you switch your desktop?
By the way, do you think Sabayon's strong suit is still KDE?
Regards!
on the other pc, I have sabayon, and I don't know the truth, I don't like how kde is presented in sabayon, it's very much like debian, without anything xd, I prefer gnome shell, kde convinces me less every day, it has many things that it doesn't I need, there are practically no topics that I like and kwin gives me many problems
I love KDE, but there are things that I really don't like. As you mentioned, I'm not convinced by any topic, not even plasma, so I use it as it comes "from the factory".
I who am a lover of dark themes, at first I used to use the theme Oxygen, although for some time now I have taken a liking to the themes Neda and Ronak, both used by Chakra before they started using Caledonia.
already .., but something tricky happens to me, for example if I try to put another theme to the qt, I'm screwed because the gtk are still with oxygen gtk xD, well, a lot of trouble
Why do you use Internet Explorer? Just curious, I still think there is not much problem as long as you are not a fan who made it work with WINE on a Linux
@Angel_Le_Blanc Hahaha no, not at all. I just bought a PC and it came with Windows 8. I haven't installed my Arch <3 and when I commented, well, it still didn't install anything x)
Although that is not what they have asked you, but well xD
Hahahaha I get Ubuntu, PCLinuxOs or Gentoo
😀 sabayon has always been my thing 😛
Oh! Slackware came out (and it was that distro that I am going to download to emulate in my VirtualBox).
Well, with me they have nailed it in the guide: Chakra to the first 🙂
With me he has also nailed it 100%: OpenSUSE xD 😛
In my case, he found Slackware (and plenty of it).
I know this comment is not very relevant, but I thought that SABAYON would be my salvation. I bought my computer a year ago, but sadly it already came with that of the UEFI. I have installed about 15 distributions (SolusOS, Pardus, Pear OS, OpenSuse, Fedora, netrunner, SABAYON, PClinux, * buntu, among others) and the only ones with which I can boot without problems are with kubuntu 12.04 and xubuntu *. * (Maybe knowing how to partition correctly could fix the problem, but I'm not that advanced user to achieve it TT)
And then bring AMD Radeon and only with the latest version of proprietary drivers my fan does not go to 1000% per hour. It's a curse; (
Nooooooooo, why queeeeeeee? T_____T
another who fell into the clutches of amd xdd's trash
Now pray that the video does not burn (it would be worse if the video was integrated into your mainboard).
If you have AMD built into your PC, you will be dead (the drivers for AMD in Linux are left in Beta), unless you recompile the GNU / Linux kernel 3.9.
[And above, the chromium nightly for Windows has the user agent that shows me as if it were Google Chrome 28].
I downloaded the proprietary drivers from the page and installed them. The combination Kubuntu 12.04 + proprietary drivers is the only thing that works for me. My fan is no longer working like crazy and what's more, if my battery lasts 2.5 hours with windows, in linux it holds me like 3.5. However, I wanted to change the distro (because I'm not so comfortable with kubuntu) and none of them have been installed. Damn AMD !!!!!!! Damn UEFI !!!!! I was thinking of selling it to some windowsero. The bad thing is that my lap got very cheap, If I had bought it for 14 thousand Mexican pesos, now you can get it for 9 thousand new TT
Try debian with the latest amd driver from the web, honestly the amd driver is easier to install than the nvidia one, only in that they win xD.
Goes! Thanks a lot. About two months ago I tried debian net-install but it never recognized my network cards, wired and wireless xD.
I will download the first DVD and hopefully if it installs well, because although all the distros that I have installed say "UEFI Support", I don't know why the hell only the * buntus if they load the grub, the others come out with which Windows could not load ¬¬
I give you an advice, the net install if not I'm wrong, if you don't have a network it asks you for the driver, look for the firmware of the driver of your usb and put it in a usb at the same time you start the installation from c, when it asks you for the driver You tell him to look for it on the usb and so it loads, I solved it with the proprietary firmware of atheros xd
How many people asserting things just because they didn't work for two or three ... In this blog is the salvation of humanity, without a doubt. How much wisdom he gathers.
You are correct .. in fact it is the only thing that slows me down on this computer .. I have verified that fedora does work .. open suse I could not know either .. Debian yes yes .. but I need proprietary drivers. so the only option I could find in the end was to use ubuntu = / but still .. 😛 the day will come 😛
Now the main thing when installing it in a uefi is to remember that they are not the three classic partitions of / »/ home / and swamp, but rather that of" EFI "is added and Windows 8 has its own partition in" EFI »So you must create a new one and not touch the efi = /
Like that guide lacks parameters, don't you think?
Archlinux XD gave me
In my case, Slackware (I don't understand why few people use slackware if it is easier to install than Arch because of how semi-guided it is to install).
It might be easier, but the documentation and the archlinux community is bigger.
Arch has also come out for me, although I think it's normal if you put pacman xD as package manager, another one can't come out ...
I put as manager, don't care or something similar xd
me too, maybe Arch came out, I think the key is to put maximum bleeding edge and maximum configuration
That distro picker is bad, I get Ubuntu in every attempt. I do not use it from precise ... I am looking for a Rolling Release distro and unfortunately the option is not there 🙁
If you want, you can try sabayon, which is rolling.
I see that Sabayon is user-friendly, I suppose that Entropy (I didn't know it existed) must be easy to use, and that Sabayon has quite a few packages. I will have to rehearse, I see that it has the DEs KDE and LXDE ... I am very used to «sudo hazLoQueQuiero»
I get arch and I'm in arch xD
I just installed sabajon 13.04.KDE was quick to install and what I liked the most was its very wide packaging, with the rigo package manager.
I really liked the TuxRadar site, I already did it several times and I am between Debian (I currently use Wheezy) and Arch. For some reason I do not stick to a Distro and change constantly. I'm scared to try Arch because of the constant problems of a rolling release. Thanks for this post
I always say it, even though it has been a while since I have been here, (although I keep reading to you) Sabayon is one of the best distros out there, with KDE, because like many other distros, they have stayed in Gnome 3.6 (something that I respect but I don't understand, because Gnome 3.8 suits me a lot better).
Regarding the ranking, although I have specified that I wanted to use Unity (since Ubuntu 13.04 it seems a new OS, the Intel HD GPU of my Intel Sandy Bridge proce has finally recognized me and the truth is that I am very happy with it, I do not know it has hung on nothing, and I like the graphical effects it uses a lot, even if it consumes many resources) Linux Mint (?) has recommended me the same is a hint to finally try Cinnamon xD.
Yay, Gentoo came out: OY proudly, user of this distro that makes me feel like I have a Lego 😀
