Open Source Game Clones it is nothing more and nothing less than a list of these projects, in which both the original game and the project or projects that try to bring these games in Open Source format to our screens are indicated. |
We found versions of Colonization (FreeCol), SCUMM (ScummVM), Command & Conquer (OpenRA), Hexen (Doomsday, ZDoom), Dune 2 (OpenDune), Flashback (Reminiscence), Heroes of Might and Magic III (VCMI), Stunts ( Ultimate Stunts), The Settlers II (Return to the Roots), Transport Tycoon (Transport Tycoon Deluxe) or Quake 3 (ioquake3, OpenArena).
In addition to these "clones" we also have a section dedicated to games inspired by an original series on Windows, such as Age of Empires (0 AD), Civilization II (FreeCiv), Diablo (Summoning Wars, FreedroidRPG), SimCity (LinCity) or Worms (Hedgewars, WarMux).
Personally, I think several games are missing: Scorched Earth (Scorched 3d), Puzzle Bobble (Frozen Bubble) and many others. Also, it would be nice to include a section de games that, although they were born as proprietary software, over the years they released their code. Still, this project is a very interesting initiative that helps demystify the idea that there are no good games for Linux.
