Something is cooking in Canaima

Hi everyone, I am @Talpi and this time I come to talk about the Cayapa Canaima that was held last week for 5 days in the National Open University in the state of Falcón, Venezuela where members of the different free communities of the country, developers, students and fans in the field participated, but first let's talk about what a cayapa is.

According to Wikipedia:

… Is part of the indigenous tradition in Venezuela and is used to describe the process through which members of a community work cooperatively on a task, either to satisfy an individual or collective need.

already in terms of the wiki of the Cayapa Canaima:

… Convenes with the intention of consolidating community participation within the Canaima Project, allowing the objectives set in terms of platform, organization and development to be specified, incorporating developers and enthusiasts into the workflow of important software applications within Canaima…

Understanding this, it is to be assumed that something is being cooked in Canaima whose event included two phases of parallel work in the first phase with 10 informative tables and the second, with 12 technical work tables according to the CNTI.

Also They discussed in technical tables proposals to improve Canaima GNU / Linux where they introduced tribes as an 'application to automate collaboration in Canaima«, 15 critical category bugs were reported, the Canaima web platform as a new visual aspect, Canaima Installer, and other technical work tables such as Canaima Educativo, Canaima Universitario ...

As I said before, there will be a new platform proposed by @macagua, here you can see the Canaima website remodel. The CNTI website also reflected that the possible date for the stable version and the new Canaima web platform would be approximately two weeks (it may take a little longer) after the Cayapa is completed.

It only remains to wait for the sancocho to be ready since it has entered a simmering stage and to be able to enjoy its distribution. This is a small part of what happened in the 7th Cayapa Canaima and I missed some detail here you can find the list of projects.

Do not hesitate to visit the Photogallery of the 7th Cayapa Canaima

We will continue to inform! 🙂

Cayapa aaaaaaaaaajajajajajajaja, take care of the language, again this enjendro. As a Venezuelan I am ashamed of this canaima record.

I don't support Canaima either, I'm just not stupid enough to post that kind of comment ...

      1.    majority said

I am from Venezuela, just like you, I support everything that has to do with free software, it is a shame that they have not done something better and modern in Canaima ...

        1.    dwarf said

It is not that it is something modern or not, things with Canaima go a lot, a lot beyond the mere fact of developing a distro, a lot of political toxin gets into here and the project ends up obviously tilted to one side, supported by people who think of one certain shape sometimes not very well seen.

But without leaving the technical issue, Canaima sins of proclaiming "great advances and possibilities at the level of technology in Venezuela" when it is really nothing more than a rehash of Debian with what and what interesting pieces and many indigenous names to simply denote a certain nationalism

In my opinion it is a lack of identity as such, the typical capricious user who always waits for something to come out to see if he likes it or not, being completely superficial on a subject that he is notoriously unknown.

You should rather be ashamed of your spelling mistakes. For my part, as a Venezuelan, I find many other things for which I am ashamed, but not the Canaima project.

      1.    dwarf said

To embarrass? I don't think so, why would I? As much as it may be, this has brought interest in the SL and that is appreciated in the country.

And there are those who say that all bugs are solved by placing it in the heart saying "made in ...".

From Mexico it is an honor for the great country (Latin America) to see how these projects continue: D, finishing my thesis I will look for a GNU project that I can help and share with my people in Chiapas.

Make sure it's not canaima, trisquel linux, the best. And nano thank you, you compliment me.

Do not worry male, as long as you are not smearing them around, I do not have to waste my time with you.

What a shame you make me feel Frank Davila Your ignorance is limitless, Salud compatriot.

Cooking and stewing is the best thing the Venezuelan government does if they put the army in the cayapa and the national guard can make some good ones ...

As a question ... will Canaima be released in more flavors? It is that Gnome Shell may bother some users, especially the new ones, and I say this from experience since the first DE I used was Gnome Shell and they were months of deep discomfort (I was using Mint 12).

    1.    dwarf said

Well, tribes are supposed to allow creating more flavors of Canaima, but it would also be necessary to see exactly what a Canaima flavor is and how it would really differ from the main distro ...

About Shell, I am greatly surprised because the results of the tests that the CNTI made to the public showed that they did not accept or adapt well to Shell, they thought about using Mate or Cinnamon, but look, I don't know how to tell you much more, a long time ago that I do not speak with those of the CNTI D:

      1.    cat said

I think a version with Mate would not be bad at all.

Greetings to all. The Cayapa was excellent, I was in the support of the Web Platform, which is in Plone and Django. Hopefully this list soon. I think that we have to support what is ours to do it better and better.

As they say in Spain: What do the balls have to do with eating wheat?
In other words, we were talking about a GNU / Linux project and apparently well organized.

What else is the Venezuelan government behind? There is no North Korean distro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ex4ZPZuFdaA) There is not a flavor of Islamic ubuntu and another Christian?

Well, if you are against the distro then do not use it, period and respect the work of those involved.
And finally, in my opinion when people get involved in one way or another in projects of such magnitude (be they GNU / Linux or others), something good always comes out, and as it is a community, we may all benefit.

    Greetings to all readers.

I just don't stop the political side of canaima, I use it and that's it

    1.    Jesus Delgado said

      Exact.

Another thing drives me crazy that they take forever, they should put attention in the development times ..

  11.   harthe said

I believe that as Venezuelans we should all support the project if you do not like it, collaborate to improve it for that is free software to contribute together and achieve mutual benefit.

  12.   pandev92 said

I have nothing against the distro, I just see that it does not contribute anything, except changing the names of the xD programs ..., and two or three own programs, but nothing else. I think that for what they are doing, it would have been better to work with any other community distro, for example one that was debian kde, contribute and redistribute it throughout the country.

  13.   lcamargoj said

I consider that linux in any of its distributions is the best we can have anywhere in the world, linux has no political tendency as some think, it is an example of collaborative development, and that humanity has long been putting aside For the mere fact of copying things from other cultures that dehumanize, on the other hand, whoever criticizes and does not propose is better to remain silent, I congratulate the people who really want Venezuela to progress and we really have independence

Hello Talpio, it turns out that I fell on this blog a few days ago and I really liked the articles published, and as a Venezuelan, seeing this post regarding the nascent flavor of Canaima motivated me to answer you, thanks for the news, I will be writing a blog with computer news from right here since in my opinion we have few informative resources on technological advances in free environments, (If it were not for Xombra's publications I would be lost in that case hehe), in turn I will be following the links you leave for inform me how I can then participate in the developments or tests or whatever comes given my circumstances as a rookie.

Greetings, thanks again for the post.

It is noted that those who comment here are criticizing Canaima since its last version and virtualized insurance and have not been given the task of testing Canaima 4 beta 2. This distro is going to give a surprise to many who are only pending criticism.

Canaima GNU + Linux has my support, as a distribution made by a community where you can find people who really want to contribute both to the free software community and to national development. Although, as a personal opinion, I must say that a push is needed in terms of graphic design and the development of applications and own solutions.

The elementary OS and other distros have worked hard to make beautiful, light and functional distributions, in less than what the Canaima project has been up to, and this without having any Government support and I'm sure with a smaller community.

I am not saying this in a critical way, I know that in the country the talent for the better, we have Turpial who was one of the best administrators of Twitter when it worked. I just wonder where all that talent is when working on projects like Cunaguaro or Guacharo.
