Tanglu continues to evolve and we will have a launch soon.

SolusOS has died, But Tanglu, another of the projects I had my eye on a long time ago continues to evolve and from the blog from the project leader, they bring us interesting news.

For who does not know what it is Tanglu, I will summarize it in a few words: The Debian I've always dreamed of. That is, Tanglu es Debian Testing, with updated packages.

Even though they said they were going to support all Desktop Environments, it will officially only receive support KDE SC 4.11.

The problem is that they don't have enough maintainers to take care of the rest full time. But it doesn't mean they don't release a version with GNOME.

Despite the setbacks, they plan to launch b with Systemd, which will run in compatibility mode sysvinit for most of the services available, and of course most of the packages come from the repositories of Debian Testing (at present Jessie).

For now the CD is only available in Live mode, but they are already working on the installer, which will first be the same as Debian but later, they plan to use Ubiquity, the installer Ubuntu, but with interface improvements and a few different things.

Tanglu must date a QT5 and the latest version of Wayland / Weston. The team intends to make a launch announcement by the end of the year.

You can test your progress by downloading the images that are available at tanglu.org.

While in Debian the debate between sysvinit, systemd and upstart breaks out

So is. I have it clear, Systemd.

I also. With SystemD you don't need any additional hardware to speed up the OS boot.

Actually the problem with systemd is the freebsd kernels (remember that they make debian versions for that kernel)

          Also from Hurd.

Fiddling with the comments of the note in MuyLinux I found this (very interesting): http://0pointer.de/blog/projects/the-biggest-myths.html

It is the favorite, although I read a lot of people in the comments of Phoronix (this is where I saw the news) who bet on the one that uses Gentoo: OpenRC (compatible with Linux and BSD).
Waiting for what the technical committee decides (2 of the 7 members work for Canonical ... it's difficult but ... let's not rule out some surprises with upstart ...) that these things in Debian, they take it easy XD

The problem is that systemd has no ports to architectures other than x86.

Debian handles I think 24 hardware architectures like sparc, armel and so on. Apart from that it is not only the Linux kernel. They have hurd, freebsd and other versions. And all of them have upstart (until last year it was like that I have no new data).

Although systemd is great, I tried it on arch linux and it was a gem, in Debian they are taking all those variables to avoid future problems.

If the systemd devs port for other architectures I think it would be a viable option for any unix.

Well systemd rocks, but Debian supports FreeBSD kernel and that ties us, I personally will send FreeBSD to the back room.

Hello @elav, thanks for the very good news, have you had the opportunity to try the LiveCD ?.

    1.    elav said

No, I haven't really been able to test the LiveCD 🙁

I tried it in the morning when I saw the ad and if it is ok ... it is a Debian with updated KDE that works more or less correctly, but that I am not particularly excited yet 🙂
It lacks something that differentiates it from the rest of Debian derivatives or Debian itself with KDE / GNOME, I suppose that will come from the issue of the most updated software or wayland support.
But hey ... between now and the end of the year they still have time to give it that touch XD

    Hello

Elav kind of didn't learn. He advertised the Solus OS and you see ... he left them in the middle of the road; not going to be the same with this one.
My humble recommendation, go for a distro would be, that it has a good number of developers, that they do not try to invent the wheel and above all, that they do not call a distro to a change of wallpaper.
    I will stay on debian.

Debian started out as what it is now? ...

SolusOS looked very good, now this too and who knows how far they will go.

But, for a project to grow you need to know it, so your opinion is fine but I do not share it. I answer you because I think you have to give Tanglu a chance, he tempts me.

      Greetings.

"The Debian I've always dreamed of" hahaha
In other words, "an Arch Linux" that uses DEB.

    How about Elav.

I like the idea, it is something for which I stopped using debian at the time, but something worries me and that is that distros with few members in the teams eventually lead to the disappearance of the distro (see the case of solus) . Chakra already had his system with KaOS and so I can give you more examples.

There are too many small projects with good intentions but the truth is I prefer a more mature distro, with more time and with a good team.

The idea of Tanglu seems very good and interesting to me, I just hope it lasts a long time.

Well it would be great if it came out with KDE clicking on Wayland / Weston but that depends on the KDE developers just migrating to Qt5 + Wayland

hopefully it's systemd but a version higher than 204 because that has a serious bug with watch_dog0

    1.    diazepam said

      Debian testing is at 204.
