The H Open closes its doors

Those who know me know that I prefer to publish how-tos and not celebrity news, but this one, in particular, has to do with us (Desde Linux). The H Open, one of the most important blogs for the dissemination of free software, has closed its doors. What does this have to do with Desde Linux? Well, I think it comes to reaffirm the decision to merge Desde Linux & Let's use Linux.

Goodbye to The H Open

This is announced in their release:

Although The H has produced many widely read stories, it has not been possible to effectively monetize this traffic to produce a sustainable business model.

Because of this, after four and a half years as The H, and six years online, The H, sadly, will be closing its doors. We thank all of our readers for their deep interest and commitment. We have already started work to create an archive to ensure that the content on this site will remain accessible to the public.

The strength is in the joining

The fall of great heavyweights in the Linux blogosphere and free software seems to be affecting not only "minor" blogs, nor is it an evil that affects only the Spanish-speaking blogosphere, as I suspected at first.

Anyway, this confirms my decision to merge Let's use Linux with Desde Linux. It was hard for me to put my ego aside, especially since uL was possibly one of the most visited blogs on the subject, but I'm sure it was the best thing for the community. It is preferable to have fewer blogs but of higher quality.

So I'm going to get straight to the point. If you are thinking of opening a blog about GNU / Linux or free software in general or if you already have a blog and cannot maintain it "with dignity", why not join us or any other blog that is of your preference?

United or dominated. The strength is in the joining.

As you say, damn ego ..
The existential doubt between being One of the Heap in a Great Blog, or being The God, but from Nothing, in a Own Blog.
At the moment I continue with GNU / Linux Paraguay and a few steps in the direction of a personal blog (I will not put it here to avoid SPAM) hehe ..
But who knows soon I ended up taking part in a more active way in <"

Exactly, it is evident that Desdelinux Now in union with Usemoslinux, it looks to be one of the most consistent blogs not only in the Hispanic blogosphere but also in the Linux blogosphere in general. Good for the community, I wish you a long life.

Well, I don't know, I like it better like this, without pressure, without criticism because people don't like what I write, without demands, etc. I think it can be rewarding to be part of a great blog, however not all of us have the wood for that.

Hard news really, I have been a follower of The H, for more than 2 years, and I can say that the page was one of the most informative in the GNU / Linux world, to close the page, it is without a doubt, a blow communicational for the community.

      That's right ... a shame.

Yes, it is very nice to publish in a superblog so that later they put advertising and take money for the work of others. (which I'm not saying is bad)

The idea of "Better a big and good blog" seems very good to me than "loads of blogs that you have to search later" ... however, I think that every great blog with many editors should have a script of "load the publication of THIS user ”and thus it would be fairer, more people would be encouraged and the quality of the articles would be the weapon of each editor. And with this, also a «vote the article» to avoid the mass publication of «shit» in order to appear 🙂

Today I prefer 400 visits to my blog than 2000 to someone else's, of course if we look at it carefully... desdelinux.net is not a blog, it is a portal 🙂

P.S. This page comes complete and beautiful 🙂

    1.    let's use linux said

      It's true ... we are already a portal ...
Let those of Taringa prepare ... haha!

DesdeLinux It will never have advertising, or at least not in an intrusive way. In fact, the few times that we have placed some type of advertising (I repeat, never intrusive), it has been to maintain the services of the blog, since neither KZKG^Gaara, nor I, get half of all that.

Well honestly if it weren't for the fact that

    1) Once I was in a blog and people were quite arrogant in their things and did not give rise to various opinions or other ways of thinking
    2) My personal time to post is well reduced due to the fact that I work and study (plus, not only do I spend on the PC, it is also good to get some fresh air;) ...)
    3) I would post Windows (I have already explained why), but it complements the 1st point since I try to show users that what is done in Windows can be shown that Linux has the same or even better for their work and teach them to migrate little by little and
    4) I write in English and Spanish (opting for both because the topics that are not explained much for users but more for programmers and power users) to try to help all possible communities

Based on the previous points, I will not think very much about it because sometimes I don't have much time to write on my blog but I have many ideas to post (not necessarily for programming or for power users) and this can be of help to many more. Outside of that, I hope you do well in your new project, for my part I will see how I lift what I have or adapt it to a little more recent situations

Sad news about the fall of The H, I had been reading your articles for a year and in my opinion they were really good.
On the other hand, I wish you the best in this new adventure that is the fusion between Desde Linux and Let's use Linux 🙂.

  13.   let's use linux said

Yes, there is no need to post on topics for power users. I put an example of a post that is not seen much and that could be very useful: how to do X things in LibreOffice. It's bullshit, almost any LibreOffice user could write it and it would be of much more help for novice users than a "learn to fully operate NASA satellites from your terminal." No?
    Hug! Paul

  14.   Juan Jose said

There is a pernicious effect on the Open Sòurce paradigm, fragmentation, everyone thinks they are doing something better than the other, that is why I welcome this fusion and should not be the last one.

I agree with what you say "It is preferable to have fewer blogs but of higher quality", but it is not necessarily true that a merger improves the quality of the content, at least what it does ensure is that there is more content.

I personally have a lot of problems maintaining my blogs and every once in a while it crosses my mind to send everything to shit, not only because time does not give me, but because honestly it goes through my head even more often to send Linux (in the desk) for shit.
