After more than four years of development, the release of the new version of the Xfce 4.14 desktop environment has been prepared, intended to provide a classic desktop that requires minimal system resources for its work.

Xfce consists of a series of interconnected components which, if desired, can be used in other projects. These components include: a window manager, an application launcher, a display manager, a session manager and power management, a Thunar file manager, a Midori web browser, a Parole media player, a mousepad text editor, and an environment configuration system.

In the plugins for the panel and in the applications, symbolic icons are involved.

The basic composition includes the Dashboard Profiles utility, which allows you to create, save and load element design profiles in the panel

The xfce4-session session manager provides support for starting applications, taking into account the priority groups that allow you to determine the chain of dependencies at startup.

On the other hand the improved power management interface (xfce4-power-manager), along with improved support for stationary systems for which a low battery warning is no longer displayed.

Added filtering of events related to the transmitted power supply system in xfce4-notified to be reflected in the log (for example, brightness change events are not transmitted). Added the ability to call the power management interface when the XF86Battery button is pressed.

In the dashboard plugin, options have been added to show the remaining battery life and the percentage of charge.

Thunar file manager has been updated, where the file path display panel has been completely redesigned.

Buttons have been added to the panel to navigate to previously open paths and continue, navigating to the main directory and the main directory.

In addition, the Thunar Plugin API was updated (thunarx), which provides support for GObject introspection and the use of folders in various programming languages. Displays the size of the file in bytes.

Controllers can now be assigned to perform user-defined actions. The ability to use Thunar UCA (User Configurable Actions) for external network resources has been implemented. Optimization of style and interface.

The PulseAudio-based panel sound control plugin has added support for the MPRIS2 protocol for remote control of playback on media players. It is possible to use multimedia keys all over the desktop (starting the additional background process xfce4-volumed-pulse).
