Steam public beta for Linux is out

Steam for Linux has finally entered public beta. The announcement was published on the official page of the Steam community where they also report the brand new repository, which will help users keep their facilities up to date.


Today, is a great day for users of Linux-based operating systems. Because Valve makes its entrance to the platform in a big way, announcing the general availability of its Steam video game manager, which has just gone through an open beta testing phase where anyone can download it for free to play three titles.

A couple of months ago, Valve announced the opening of a closed beta and limited to just 1.000 users chosen by the company, who were the first guinea pigs to help uncover bugs and flaws before the product was released.

Now, a second step is to extend this testing ground to all those who wish to participate voluntarily, those who can access the Valve repositories to get a copy of Steam for Linux, being able to play three video games based on the graphics engine so far Source: Team Fortress 2, Portal and Serious Sam BFE, with the arrival of Left 4 Dead 2 being planned shortly.

    It seems to me that the only game that comes free is Team Fortress 2
