The Unarchiver comes to Debian Testing

Do you remember that I told you about Unar (The Unarchiver) a while ago? Well, back then it was only available in the repositories of debian-sid, but now, we can already enjoy this application in Debian Testing.

Unar is the alternative to Unite which is not completely free. Its use is very simple:

lsar    List the contents of a file. Example: lsar .rar

unar    Extract the contents of a file. Example: join .rar

To install it we open a terminal and put:

sudo aptitude install unar

It's that simple ...

    I've been waiting months for it to arrive, and when it arrives it is impossible for me to install it:

    --------------------------------
    sudo aptitude install unar

    The following NEW packages will be installed:
    gnustep-base-common {a} gnustep-base-runtime {a} gnustep-common {a}
    libgnustep-base1.22 {a} libobjc3 {a} unar
    The following packages will be updated:
    gcc-4.6-base
    1 updated packages, 6 new ones installed, 0 to remove and 105 not updated.
    I need to download 4086 kB of files. After unpacking, 10,4 MB will be used.
    Dependencies for the following packages are not satisfied:
    libstdc ++ 6: Depends: gcc-4.6-base (= 4.6.1-4) but 4.6.2-4 will be installed.
    libgfortran3: Depends: gcc-4.6-base (= 4.6.1-4) but 4.6.2-4 will be installed.
    g ++ - 4.6: Depends: gcc-4.6-base (= 4.6.1-4) but 4.6.2-4 will be installed.
    libgomp1: Depends: gcc-4.6-base (= 4.6.1-4) but 4.6.2-4 will be installed.
    gcc-4.6: Depends: gcc-4.6-base (= 4.6.1-4) but 4.6.2-4 will be installed.
    libgcc1: Depends: gcc-4.6-base (= 4.6.1-4) but 4.6.2-4 will be installed.
    libquadmath0: Depends: gcc-4.6-base (= 4.6.1-4) but 4.6.2-4 will be installed.
    cpp-4.6: Depends: gcc-4.6-base (= 4.6.1-4) but 4.6.2-4 will be installed.
    libstdc ++ 6-4.6-dev: Depends: gcc-4.6-base (= 4.6.1-4) but 4.6.2-4 will be installed.
    The following actions will resolve these dependencies

    Keep the following packages in the current version:
    1) gcc-4.6-base [4.6.1-4 (now)]
    2) gnustep-base-runtime [Not installed]
    3) libgnustep-base1.22 [Not installed]
    4) libobjc3 [Not installed]
    5) join [Not installed]

    Leave the following dependencies unresolved:
    6) libgnustep-base1.22 recommends gnustep-base-runtime

    Do you accept this solution? [Y / n / q /?]

    I do not get it

      Did you try some of the options that aptitude offers you?

      Las acciones siguientes resolverán estas dependencias

      Mantener los paquetes siguientes en la versión actual:
      1) gcc-4.6-base [4.6.1-4 (now)]
      2) gnustep-base-runtime [Sin instalar]
      3) libgnustep-base1.22 [Sin instalar]
      4) libobjc3 [Sin instalar]
      5) unar [Sin instalar]

      Dejar las siguientes dependencias sin resolver:
      6) libgnustep-base1.22 recomienda gnustep-base-runtime

      ¿Acepta esta solución? [Y/n/q/?]

    in the end I managed to install it with apt-get

    now you just need to integrate it to the file-roller to avoid having to use a console

    would be ideal

      Wow, I hadn't read this comment. Well yes, I suppose that somehow soon we will have an integration with applications of this type (File-Roller, Xarchiver, Squeeze, Ark ... anyway) ..
