Thunar will have Eyelashes!

As it is, I just found out from the xubuntu-devel mailing list and confirmed it on the Xfce forum. Nick schermer in G + who has been in charge of making it possible:

«Without further ado: Tabs in Thunar. Sometimes open-source is also listening to users without agreeing on the change yourself ;-). »

What translated for those who do not get along very well with English would be:

«Without further ado: Eyelashes in Thunar. Sometimes open source is also listening to users without agreeing to the change yourself. "

Thunar Tabs

I'm really happy with the news, not only because of the inclusion of the new functionality (which Thunar users expected for a long time) but also because of the change in the attitude of Xfce developers, because a lot of fabric has been I already cut about this topic in the forum and in many other places and the answer had always been a resounding no with no possibility of intermediate agreements arguing that two parallel windows could always be used to supply this functionality.

I don't know if it will be added as an upgradeable package, although I do know that the git version can be compiled separately complying with the Exo 0.9.0, Gtk 2.24 and Glib 2.30 dependencies. In the xubuntu devel mailing list it was said that it would come for Xfce 4.12 and it was announced that from version 1.5.1 of Thunar it is already available but I suppose that it does not take long to appear packaged by third parties for the different distributions! :).

Good news, the use of tabs has always been very versatile for me and as a Thunar user I appreciate it =)…

all we need to do is have integrated searches one day as in nautilus

    1.    Rayonant said

Well, the search engine already has it through catfish and has a custom action with the right click that calls the application, and for me it is enough, if you are not interested in installing an extra application you can make a search engine using zenity as explained. https://blog.desdelinux.net/creando-un-buscador-de-ficheros-para-thunar-con-zenity/

      1.    Nonamed said

Yes, but in the search results you cannot do operations, such as deleting them for example

        something you can with nautilus

WTF !!! Because right now? I'm so happy with KDE .. ¬¬

Anyway, excellent news, something that Xfce lovers have been waiting for a long, long time ago.

Too late. I'm comfortable with SpaceFM ……………… ..except for accessing network computers, snif.

I'm scared, because I don't usually like changes, but hey. But will it still bring the tabs that it brings by default? I mean the ones that come out when you hit Ver

I'm glad to hear the news now that I'm very active in XFCE

I am very simple in using the file browser, I doubt that I will use the tabs when they arrive at Thunar as I have not used them in other browsers having the option, but at least there will be the option in Thunar 😀

Excellent news. Lashes were the only thing missing from thunar. Less that they have ended up changing their minds. I didn't like the other file managers as much as thunar. For my taste, with this thunar is perfect. 🙂

Well elav, you no longer have excuses to return to XFCE, we are waiting for you.

This stays in KDE hahahaha, that KOrganizer ... KMail, all that integration is not achieved in another environment LOL!

Hahaha, leave it, when you least expect it, you will see me again in Xfce hahaha

You have no remedy. First KZKG ^ Gaara becomes a Debian fan and now elav is a KDE fan. Whats Next? Me becoming an Apple fan? If that happens give me a good blow to the head, please. 🙂

Hahahaha Why do I always have to say the same thing? I was a KDE 3.X user

    Brilliant!

Another option that XFCE4 users have been asking for for a long time is an application menu editor.

In times there was one but for some reason it stopped being included.

    1.    Rayonant said

For that you can use Alacarte or LXmenu.

Xfce has hooked me and as a thunar user I find it excellent news.

Excellent, now you just have to catch up to pcmanFM speed to be great.
Still, as XFCE is my favorite environment, it makes me very happy.

Now that I think about it, [off-topic] it would be great to find the way in the comments, in addition to the OS and the browser, will also identify the environment. For example, it would only be enough to add the name in the «User Agent», like XFCE 4.10, or something like that. The truth is that I have no idea about this 😉

    1.    KZKG ^ Gaara said

In theory yes, but I think it would be too much already haha.

and I'm used to spaceFM now, I've been using xfce since I've been using arch, but I haven't looked at thunar on my desktop for months, it's great that it has those tabs, but they don't compare at all to spaceFM's tabs 😛 (totally subjective opinion and staff, please don't kill me!)

    1.    Leo said

I think the same, pcmanFM (and by extension spaceFM that I am going to test) have shown that they can do much more than thunar but faster, although of course, Thunar is more stable.
Although XFCE is my favorite, in my opinion they have focused so much on stability that they forgot to innovate.

  14.   giskard said

AT LAST they gave their arm to twist. I remember in other forums that when one DARE to say that Thunar should have tabs (tabs) the whole world fell on him. And the worst thing is that no one gave a valid reason why it should not have.

But hey, we'll wait to see how it behaves. I am particularly using CAJA (in XFCE) and it works great.

  15.   Hyuuga_Neji said

Come on, the «Mighty Thunar» comes to us with little eyelashes in the style of PcManFm ... great news but they need more than little eyelashes and configuration options to get me out of my LXDE xD

    1.    Leo said

It's been days since I changed XFCE to LXDE just to test, and every day I like it more 🙂

  16.   leonard said

    what good news 😀

  17.   sieg84 said

    uh, since i deleted xfce

  18.   cryotope said

The reason they referenced for not integrating the tabs functionality into Thunar is because it added "complexity to the code." As I am not a programmer nor have I looked at the source code, I cannot confirm or deny it.

This change in attitude by Nick Schermer is interesting because he was one of the strongest opponents to carry out this change. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that version 4.12 is a version of "preparation" to be ported to GTK3. It is possible that with this version of GTK this type of functionality is easier to include.

On the other hand, if you dedicate yourself to transferring files from one directory to another »by hand» and frequently, the use of tabs is extremely comfortable.

  19.   auroszx said

Excellent news 🙂 I would prefer that they were panels (2 nothing more…), but tabs are fine 🙂

  20.   Carlos-Xfce said

More than the tabs, what I miss in Thunar is the split panel I used with Nautilus when pressing F3.
