Continuing with our current series of publications called “Top of new GNU/Linux Distros”, today we offer you this new publication (ninth) of the same, where we will address more innovative and interesting alternatives for free and open operating systems based on Linux and BSD. Therefore, today we will address 2 more calls: NixBSD and LibraZiK. In such a way as to complete the known ones during the month of March and April of this year 2024, within the waiting list of the well-known DistroWatch website.
Let us remember that these and other GNU/Linux and *BSD Distros await their fair recognition within said website, and then be disseminated as modern, complete and stable projects. NixBSD

- Actual state: It is a fairly recent project and, therefore, in full development. And as its developer explains: NixBSD is an attempt to create a reproducible and declarable BSD, based on NixOS. Therefore, theoretically much of this could be copied to build other BSDs, although currently it has only been tested on one of the FreeBSD types.
- brief description: It is a lightweight and functional operating system that seeks to be a successful unofficial fork of NixOS with a FreeBSD kernel. So, for now, in this initial stage of development, the easiest way to test it and experience its advances and new features is from a virtual machine (VM). With the aim of facilitating listening, editing, recording, mixing, mastering, audio and/or MIDI management, and more.
- Actual state: It is a project with a long history, although it has not had the necessary and expected updates lately. However, it has abundant official documentation about the current and previous versions, so that any interested user can make the most of said project.
- brief description: It is a versatile and useful software project that provides a free digital audio system designed for music production that allows you to install and use all the software tools you need to work on sound on a Debian/Ubuntu basis. In this way, to provide a robust and ready-to-use system for free software users who wish to create computer-assisted music.
