In this post I will teach you how to convert KDE4 into Pantheon QT / KDE4. First of all we install the necessary packages:
- A dDebian-based Distro
- Time and desire to do it 🙂
You can add the following repositories
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/elementary-os/stable/ubuntu precise main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/elementary-os/stable/ubuntu precise main
Install:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install slingshot
Either use the .deb (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED):
32 bit:
wget http://ppa.launchpad.net/elementary-os/stable/ubuntu/pool/main/s/slingshot-launcher/slingshot-launcher_0.7.6+r390-0+pkg25~ubuntu12.04.1_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i slingshot-launcher_0.7.6+r390-0+pkg25~ubuntu12.04.1_i386.deb
64 bit:
wget http://ppa.launchpad.net/elementary-os/stable/ubuntu/pool/main/s/slingshot-launcher/slingshot-launcher_0.7.6+r390-0+pkg25~ubuntu12.04.1_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i slingshot-launcher_0.7.6+r390-0+pkg25~ubuntu12.04.1_amd64.deb
We install Plank or another dock (For example docky or you can use a panel as a dock).
Once installed we add Plank to the autostart (u docky or your dock)
We add a new empty panel:
We install the theme for the window decorator: Elementary Luna and apply it
We install the plasma theme: Caledonia / Wave Remix Opaque or the one you like the most 😉
Now we open a terminal, execute nano (Nano from Gnu, not Nano from <»Linux xD) and put the following:
[Desktop Entry] Version = 1.0 Type = Application Name = slingshot Exec = slingshot-launcher% U Icon = slingshot-launcher Terminal = false
and we save it as slingshot-launcher.desktop
We drag it to the panel and change the icon to the one we like the most 😉 we add a clock, three spaces and the indicators, so that it looks like this:
We delete the panel below and open our dock:
And from there nothing more to say, customize it to your liking; P

This post is dedicated to @ eliotime3000 (and all of you of course!) To turn your KDE into Pantheon xD
I hope you liked it, don't forget to follow me on twitter.
Excellent! Now there is the Elementary KDE. In my case, I would make an Elementary logo style "K" to make the Elementary KDE layout.
The result seems fine to me, but I'm too picky about details ... and the tray icons don't look right 🙁
Anyway, your Elementary style KDE is a lot better than us.
Still, I have gotten used to the Windows style, but I hope the Plank does not interfere with the operation of the KDE task dock.
In fact I have a project in mind: to create an elementary theme for KDE and other very interesting projects, the bad thing is my studies ¬_¬ that take up my time and don't let me linux. (PS: Today I am blessedly lucky to be able to get home early, oh and by the way I like you: DD)
Greetings and have a good weekend!

You are too fussy about details, I have Acute Versionitis. We all have defects. xD

Elav you are too picky about details, that's why you use LibreOffice with some fancy icons and a toolbar configuration that mimics Office 2003.

(An Elav joke)
Excellent post !! It looks very good in KDE but the top panel ruins everything, I like the XFCE panel better.
KDE is still very cool and it makes me better to customize KDE to install ElementaryOS and make a mess by installing things (for me personally). When I have my netbook back (I miss it already 🙁) I will continue this but the bad thing is that I have OpenSUSE KDE so I think I will fight something.
To taste the colors but I don't see myself putting in KDE a weird dock of those that is out there having the plasma panels
That's why I said: "or you can use a panel as a dock"
Greetings and have a good weekend!

Well, I use KDE with Docky on my laptop. The thing is, the panel doesn't have the same effect on me, I can't put it in 3D mode as I like ...
by the way, the Linux Mint 16 RC is out
The font and taskbar icons are eye-popping. xD
Here is my attempt at an elementary KDE only using KDE's own tools.

very good post, although I would like them to remove kde for elementary
now only lxde would be missing 😛
It would be cool for a pic around here.
Hello dear, I am a fan of linux but with little experience in this world, I have gone through some distros and for now I am testing with openSUSE 12.3 kde… my question is… can I do the same in my distro ??? If it is possible to achieve it, I will be grateful for your help… greetings from Chile… in advance, thank you very much and long live free software !!!!
Excellent post, your desktop was very nice.
can the same effect be achieved in opensuse ???
Is there a way to put text instead of an icon or both by modifying the .desktop file? If anyone knows the way it would be good to know because it is precisely what I would like to do.
But for what? yes KDE is already pretty
Is that XFCE (the one from the comparison capture)? Isn't it the GNOME of Elementary OS itself?
nstale elemenatryosluna and restarting the next morningb got the message.
