Tux Paint 0.9.27 arrives with 6 new magic-tools and more

Recently the release of the new version of Tux Paint 0.9.27 was announced, version in which some important changes have been made.

For those who are unfamiliar with Tux Paint, they should know that the program is designed for children from 3 to 12 years old and it was initially created to run under the GNU / Linux operating system, since there were no similar drawing applications for children at the time.

It is written in the programming language C and uses several free helper libraries.

Tux Paint stands out from other graphic editing programs (like GIMP or Photoshop) since It was designed to be used by children as young as three years of age. The user interface is intended to be intuitive, and uses icons, audible comments, and text suggestions to explain how the program works. Also, the sound effects and the mascot (Tux, from Linux) are intended to engage children.

Main novelties of Tux Paint 0.9.27

In this new version of the application we can find that the brush and line drawing tools now support brushes that rotate according to the direction of the brush stroke.

Another novelty that stands out in this new version of Tux Paint 0.9.27 is that a free coloring mode has been added to the fill tool to interactively paint bounded areas with a brush (the strokes do not go beyond the edge of the area, but the coloring affects only the places where the brush is touched).

In addition to this, it is highlighted that six new "magic" tools were added, which are described as follows:

  1. Panels: reduce and duplicate the image in 4 cells of the selected size (to create comics).
  2. Lightning: interactive drawing of a lightning bolt.
  3. Reflection: creates a reflected image.
  4. Oposite: change the color to the opposite.
Stretch: distorts the image as in the mirrors in the fun room.
  5. Smooth Rainbow is a smarter version of the rainbow drawing tool.

On the other hand, it stands out that many "magic" tools have been updated, including Halftones (which simulates printing photos on a newspaper), Cartoon (which makes an image look like a cartoon drawing), TV (simulates a TV screen).

Of the other changes that stand out from this new version:

  • The "magic" tools are grouped into a collection by purpose (paint, distortion, color filters, etc.).
  • The interface for configuring the parameters of the program has been adapted to improve work on large screens with high resolution.
  • On the Windows platform, the location of deleted images is implemented in the trash, instead of physically deleting them.
  • Revised documentation.
