This was announced Jane silber, Canonical CEO through Twitter and his words have been supported by an article in the Canonical blog.
Jane wrote: "By popular demand, #Ubuntu LTS for 5 yrs on desktop" and it's certainly excellent news for "stable" users of Ubuntu. I think it was a smart decision, especially if we think about production equipment in Small, Medium and Large Companies.
My very personal opinion: Ubuntu should have like Debian, a stable branch (LTS) and a test branch, which could be perfectly rolling release. But nothing, Uncle Mark and his boys decide what the future direction of this distribution will be.
Great news, I plan to stay with the next LTS for a while 🙂
<° Ubuntu.
It caught my attention that it is the second time you have made that same comment and since I had the impression that it was not like that, I started to review the latest blog topics to put this to the test and do you know what I found in the last 50 post?
Ubuntu and Unity 9
Servers 2
Browsers 2
Gnome 3, Gnome-shell 4
Terminal, tools, applications, tricks, tutorials, applications, etc. (any distro and none at the same time) 16
linux mint 4
Minority Distros (out of the top ten of distrowatch) 2
Arch 1
News about soft and technology in general 3
Schedule 2
Debian 3
General opinion 2
That is Ubuntu-Unity 9, and not Ubuntu unity 41.
I leave the task to Elav and KZKG ^ Gaara to make a more precise and extensive classification of their blog topics.
When prejudice goes beyond intersubjective perception and ends up filtering out dissonant information, the line between the reality principle and the fantasy principle is often lost.
greetings.
And I hope that it is not taken as if I was trying to defend Ubuntu or the blog, because that is not my intention, I only think that when Eduar2 says on more than one occasion that:
«<° Ubuntu",
is suggesting that it is only or generally the only thing they talk about on the blog, which I tried to point out is not.
regards
My Dear Eduar2. It doesn't matter how many times you remind us 😛
Not seriously, here we try to address topics about most of the things in the world of GNU / Linux, but above all, the intention of <° Linux is to transmit our knowledge and experiences from day to day. I personally sometimes want to cover everything, but believe it or not, the lack of resources prevents me from doing so and I will give you a simple example.
I would like to do Reviews of every distro that exists, but I can't. Do you know why? For something fundamental that is needed: Internet. Not only do I not have access to all the / ftps / mirrors distributions, but, even if I did, the bandwidth does not allow me to download all of them and besides that, to use their repositories.
But I tell you more. Here we also publish (and will publish) articles that we find interesting for The Community in General. It is not our purpose to satisfy only a small group of users.
Greetings 😛
So better HAHAHA
Hahaha really, the things that occur to you…. Not at all, man, our intention is not to compete with anyone, just to transmit knowledge, share with wonderful users (like you, sometimes) and form a Community of friends around <° Linux
Dethrone them? … For that would it be necessary for them to be on the podium or not? LOL!!!
I prefer sites like WebUp8, OmgUbuntu, and personal developer blogs, I don't know, in MuyLinux I find recent news, but they don't "get" me at all.
According to you it was a fucking site, just like for me, I hate that page
Yes yes… we are putting too many Ubuntu articles right? LOL!!!!
Excellent idea, I had to move from Ubuntu because of the loss of support, being very satisfied with my version but well, I had to change.
Very good news because many of us like to have a stable system for a very good time 😉
That is why I have Debian. It is true that sometimes I do not have the latest packages like in Ubuntu, but when I do, they work great.
Isn't a rolling release better? Come on and stop so much nonsense every 6 months. that they throw rolling release and every so often an LTS, for companies (it will be necessary to see which: D) This is better and if they want to continue with the names of animals, then every 6 months they take out an updated CD / DVD of the image of the Rolling Release and so they have for marketing. And all happy as worms.
You already know that Mr. Ernesto alias elav is capable of taking a bath with sulfuric acid before rolling.
But what you say is fine, a distro that has that is Frugalware, which has a Current branch that is rolling and a Stable that is cycling
Eeeeeeeeerrooooorrrrr !!! More versionitis than me or KZKG ^ Gaara has, that when he used Ubuntu he said that if the stability, that if what works ... anyway. If Debian was Rolling Release, I would still use it. And just so you know, I don't use Arch for 2 things:
1- I really love my Debian.
2- I can't be updating internet packages every day
elav everyone knows that you hate archlinux and you love Ubuntu, don't try to cover the sun with a finger.
Nope, you're wrong Eduardito .. I don't hate any distro and I love only one: Debian.
I already gave you the option of taking a walk with Alejandro so that he can tell you all the benefits of Arch Linux while you update haha on top of that we help you ... hahaha
I imagine that with that they will want to dethrone Hasecorp or something like that because if not I can't explain it, or because Mr. Shuttlegates has realized that he is losing money
I suppose you have realized that a distribution every 6 months, with LTS support every 3, is not very reliable for companies, where there is no need to be installing every time a new Ubuntu comes out.
@Trece: I don't take what you say wrong, it's in troll mode on, although you don't have to say that you don't defend ubuntu, if we all know it's your favorite distro. (it's still troll mode on).
And if it is <° Ubuntu, because for every nonsense that they get out of Ubuntu pum they publish it, in a little while this will be the same as muy linux, that if Mark Shuttleworth threw a peo (a flatulence) you saw it first by <° Ubuntu.
Although I recognize that my first comment on this topic was just to troll, because this is a news story, let's say, outstanding about the African distro. Not like other topics like: Ubuntu xx will be called Masturbating Monkey, or similar things for God's sake !.
Where it says: "It's in troll mode on", it meant it was in troll mode on.
(it's still troll mode on). I wanted to say I'm not here.
Jo that I am dawning and I have peeled myself from top to bottom. Hopefully I don't understand the troll, it's me, not Thirteen.
You said it, it was just that you activated the "troll" mode, and I think that does not really affect anyone. And I appreciate the response to my opinion about that, when I read: «<° Ubuntu": I found it unjustified if the set of topics covered in this blog and the frequency of each of them were reviewed.
Greetings.
Mr Thirteen, you have a fault and must go to the RAE.
"Agradesco"
Jaja
You're right and thanks for the clarification, I should have said "thank you."
Courage you touch the eggs with the RAE 😀 You have well deserved the position of troll number 1.
HAHAHAHA, no man at all… the position of Troll No.1 had already been won BEFORE he started with the RAE nonsense LOL !!!
Haha is that many times I screw people in Tuenti writing things like "boy" or "benga", people in guitarist forums say "distortion" or directly to newcomers linuxeros with their typical phrase Hoygan "HOYGAN AS INTALO MESENLLER ENE L UBUNTO ME URJE MUXO GRASIAS DE ANTEBRASO »
Haha now you will touch haha time to time
Masturbating Monkey hahahahahajajajajjaja
Hahahaha I get….
To my knowledge, nothing has ever come out of my fingers about Ubuntu like the ones you mean… If you see any, please let me know.
If I told you haha
Well they will come out, time to time hahaha
I was referring to worthless nonsense like this: https://blog.desdelinux.net/ubuntu-12-04-se-llamara/
Yes sir, a big Zas in all the mouth
