Ubuntu 12.10 will be called Quantal Quetzal

Within days of the Ubuntu 12.04 release, Mark Shuttleworth announced in his blog that Ubuntu 12.10 will be named "Quantal Quetzal".

According to Wikipedia:

The Quetzal is a bird belonging to the Trogonidae family, found in the tropical regions of America. The word "quetzal" was originally used only for the Resplendent Quetzal, Pharomachrus mocinno, the famous long-tailed quetzal of Central America, which is the symbolic bird of the Republic of Guatemala. The Aztecs and the Mayans worshiped the quetzal as the god of the air.

Here's the Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal development schedule:

  • Alpha 1 - June 7
  • Alpha 2 - June 28
  • Alpha 3 - August 2
  • Beta 1 - September 6
  • Beta 2 - September 27
  • Final Ubuntu 12.10 release - October 18
