Tomorrow will be the day expected by millions of users around the world, users of Ubuntu Of course. And it is that version 13.10 will bring with it an important step to Canonical: Ubuntu Phone OS.
Every taste of Ubuntu will bring its changes and improvements, but in particular, I have a special interest in seeing what happens with this new proposal of Canonical to reach the cell phone market.
Months of testing have paid off and you can currently install (or try to install) Ubuntu Phone on a wide variety of devices, let's see a table with the devices that have already been flashed:
If you want more details of the teams that can already run Ubuntu Phone OS and those that are in the testing phase, visit this link.
For the most risky, there is a page in the Ubuntu Wiki where they show us the installation process step by step:
So will tomorrow's launch be different from what Ubuntu has us used to? Remains to be seen.
Every day the moment to finally buy a powerful tablet or Smartphone is getting closer.
Many do not understand the leap that Ubuntu is making. While Canonical has made a few mistakes in recent times, with the development of Ubuntu Touch it is promising a great future for Linux. Communities have to understand that the future of personal computing is tablets, it won't be long before net and notebooks are replaced by the former. If Linux does not want to stay in time, I think that all communities would have to worry about developing their distros to be compatible with smartphones and tablets
Good joke for lunch time xD
HAHAHAHA I have a tablet and a Net that's why it sounds like a joke to me
The truth is that what you mention has happened to me to see with adolescents, many are even leaving forgotten tablets and do everything from their cell phone to homework.
For the non-technical user a tablet / cell phone is more than enough, computers are being left only for work tasks.
Work, games and multimedia. That's what computers are for. However, many people only want social networks and chat, for that a smartphone is ideal, but that does not mean that computers are going to disappear.
If I totally agree, desktops won't disappear, only niche-specific usage will be reduced.
Even the tablets that they offer / promote for work 8 hours a day, I see them as support, but not as a substitute for a desktop computer, because what they show in the commercial is very nice, but I don't want to stop leaving my eyes on a 10 ″ screen (I already wear glasses).
What they mention about netbooks, in my country the only ones that are sold are balances, and the spare parts are no longer as abundant as a couple of years ago, and yes ... now the sideboards are more full of tablets.
have you gone crazy? tablet devices will never replace net
Look who's talking someone who uses Shit OS instead of using Ubuntu to lead by example ole you yes sir
I use Ubuntu and I can talk about it, whoever uses Shit OS who talks about that shit Mocosoft OS plagued with viruses, Trojans, spyware, which also surely have pirates without paying a € for the license, in Linux you don't need that, I have Ubuntu free of charge and without inflicting the law (not like those who use Shit)
regards
Excellent news 😀
It is assumed that it is still too early to give an opinion. On the page it depends on the model I see that not everything works well at all. We would have to see if the performance is superior to android or if it is similar or worse. They say that Ubuntu will not work on java, this is so?????
There is no doubt that canonical people have very good ideas, or risky ideas. Apart from whether or not they like it now, for now I think it is the only company (canonical) and distribution (Ubuntu) that is dedicated to doing something different from unity (even if it is closing their own). I just hope that with the passage of time they innovate But it does
Tomorrow the internet will be filled with trolls haha as it always happens when the new Ubuntu one comes out, although it will be overshadowed by the W8 that will update tomorrow (it will be sold on Friday)
Look for the L9 and nothing works haha none works 100% ...
There is one thing that strikes me. Supposedly Ubuntu Touch is independent of Android, instead it seems that it uses the Android system for something, does it know something for what? It is like having two systems at the same time, but one is there running in the background and the other is the one you see, unless Ubuntu Touch runs on Android (in this case it would be to look at it). Ah, the Android version is 4.2.2, the one for Cyanogenmod.
Dualboot.
I want to install and install KDE XD
Tomorrow Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu phone and Windows 8.1 will be released. You have to see what happens.
What applications are available for Ubuntu Phone? I'm not installing games and stuff but for example:
Twitter, Messenger or whatsApp. Will these applications be available?
Good day
I would like if this can be installed on a Chinese pd10 tablet, it would be great to make the change 🙂
Hello Elva greetings, I know that this has nothing to do with the post but by any chance do you know why Google Chrome cannot be installed in Ubuntu and derivatives at the moment?
I've been trying since last night and I get the following error:
"The lib32gcc1 dependency is not satisfied"
I thought it was an Ubuntu problem so I made a Linux mint 15 Live USB and downloaded the Chrome .deb again and Wow! I get the same dependency error, I went to Elementary OS (Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS) and exactly the same thing happens, in no ubuntu it seems that Google Chrome is allowed to be installed
Will it be a problem on Google's servers?
Well I just wanted to leave this question, I hope you have an answer to help you understand what is happening.
Hello Jamin-Samuel. It has also happened to me in Debian Wheezy, therefore the problem is a change in Chrome and not the operating system.
regards
And were you able to install Chrome successfully on Debian Whezzy?
I do not want to be bad but you should ask in a forum, however it is not necessary to ask if not to SEARCH in google, because you are not UNIQUE, to many people it happened and they already asked as it should in the Ubuntu and Google support, and there is an extensive thread somewhere that talks about that ... google is your friend. What comfort
Yes, good, but ... Can I install Kde or Gnome on Ubuntu Phone?
I hope that with Ubuntu Phone XP users migrate to Linux 😀
Well, I hope the guys at XDA Developers will also do the feat of adapting the Ubuntu Phone to the Samsung Galaxy Mini as they did with the CyanogenMod 10.1 (so far, zero problems).
Hello eliotime, tell me what rom do you use for the galaxy mini, because whenever I install 10.1, after 2 days the cell phone starts giving problems, I never install games or anything ... Greetings
The ROM I use is the one I have googled. In fact, on my website I have left a short tutorial about how to do it (and with links to the necessary files).
It looks pretty good (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94ORP3Fp1f0) ... hopefully there will be a port for my terminal.
I also hope that there is a port for my Samsung Galaxy Mini.
Waited by millions? most users expect windows to return the start menu. The rest is for freakis.
Interesting… I seem to have seen a test image out there for the Nexus 7, so there should be a final version later I guess.
Now, people talking about ports… I don't know what the minimum requirements will be, but I don't see any ARMv6 processor phones listed so I wouldn't get my hopes up with the Galaxy Mini, Ace, and the like. Firefox OS would be more likely (I hope this part does not create biases where there are none).
For the rest, I want to see where this is going 🙂 Since without the official EDGE phone, it will not have the same popularity (I guess).
I don't know why but 2 years ago when I wanted to switch to GNU / Linux; the first distribution that appeared to me was Ubuntu ... it was just browsing it and shooting for Windows again ... then "after the scare" and looking a little more, I found Kubuntu and the KDE desktop and from then on I no longer separate neither GNU / Linux nor KDE, I am currently with Mageia and it is 10.
Buuuhhh, it is not for my Galaxy S4 Exynos, what sadness !!!
I ran to install it>: D
It is not compatible with the Kindle Fire 2 ... I have installed it in mine to test it and it remains stuck on the loading screen ...
Ubuntu 13.10 A different release?
