Ubuntu developer Alberto Milone calls on Ubuntu 18.04 or Ubuntu 18.10 users with hybrid laptops to test support for Nvidia Prime.

With the release of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Bionic Beaver as the first long-term supported system to bring the default GNOME graphical environment instead of Unity, Hybrid laptop users lost the way Nvidia PRIME worked on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Xenial Xerus.

Alberto Milone never gave up and together with his team they have managed to launch a patch for the problem that caused the laptop's power to increase when the power saving mode was used with the Nvidia graphics card turned off, in addition to the same problem disabled the option to change power profile when logged out.

"The two bugs should be fixed in Ubuntu 18.10 and I have moved my work to Ubuntu 18.04, available now for testing.”Mentions Alberto Milone.

According to Milone, who has invited Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Bionic Beaver and Ubuntu 18.10 Cosmic Cuttlefish users with hybrid laptops and Intel and Nvidia graphics card supported by proprietary Nvidia 390 driver to test support for Nvidia PRIME, the fixes are now available, although GDM3 (GNOME Display Manager) support still needs a bit of work.

It should be noted that if you are using the LightDM or SDDM session managers, the support for Nvidia PRIME might not work as expected. The developer is working on some fixes to add support for these administrators and has said they will be available in the next update.

To test the support for Nvidia PRIME you can see the information available in the Official Site
