Ubuntu 18.10 Cosmic Cuttlefish will be released on October 18

Ubuntu 18.10

In the previous days it was announced that Ubuntu 18.10's name is Cosmic Cuttlefish and the development start flag was given with the GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) 8.1, although it will not be used by default, however, there are plans to do so in the future.

As well Ubuntu 18.10 is expected to have a 5.x series kernel as Linus Torvalds tempted the community with the release of Linux 5.0 when the development of the 4.7 series ended.

The default graphical environment for Ubuntu 18.10 Cosmic Cuttlefish will be GNOME 3.30, which will be released on September 5. Although as traditionally GNU / Linux distributions use the first update after a major release, Ubuntu 18.10 could use GNOME 3.30.1 which will arrive on September 26th.

Ubuntu 18.10 officially released in October

While the Ubuntu 18.10 release cycle is not set in stone, it was previously announced that phase alpha 1 and 2 and beta 1 will be completely eliminated for all distributions, there will instead be so-called "trial weeks" which are planned as follows:

  • First week: May 21 to 25
  • Second week: June 25 to 29
  • Third week: July 23 to 27
  • Fourth week: August 27 to 31

La final beta for Ubuntu (and beta 2 for the other distributions) was also omitted from the cycle, instead there will only be a beta that will hit the public on September 27 for Ubuntu and its distributions alike, after that we will see a few weeks off for that the final launch takes place on October 18.

Of course, these are the tentative dates and as always happens we could see delays or advances, although the launch proposal is almost always fulfilled within a few days of each other. To know more information about the release cycles you just need to visit the official Ubuntu page.
