Good news for users of Ubuntu Phone, Linphone, the open source Voice over IP (VoIP) application, is available for Ubuntu Touch operating system from the Open Store app store.
If you are using an Ubuntu Phone you will be pleased to know that now you can make calls over IP no matter where you are, this thanks to two free software developers who ported the Linphone app to the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system, which is currently being maintained by the UBports community.
With Linphone installed on your Ubuntu phone, you can create a SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) account on the Linphone.org page and call another SIP or eNum account at no cost, in addition to normal calls, although in this case the SIP account that calls needs to have credit.
The developers who ported the app also noted that calls will only work for some SIP accounts at the moment, although they did not explain how these accounts are selected. If you are lucky and your account works you can leave Linphone running in background by default and the app will not turn off the screen during calls.
Linphone has just landed in the Open Store.
It's Ubuntu Touch's 1st VOIP (SIP) app.
You can even use it to make regular telephone calls, too!
big thanks to @cybersheep and @bhdouglass for all their work!

Does anyone know where to buy a cell phone with Ubuntu Phone?
