University of Computer Sciences in Cuba offers courses to foreigners

As our friends publish in humansAt the UCI (University of Informatics Sciences) a call has been launched here for those professionals (foreigners ... that is, not Cubans) who wish to participate in a postgraduate degree in Free Software.

The date will be between November 17 and 21 of this year, here is the call:

prob1-ver2

So far so good. The only thing that does not quite "fit" or I understand, is that this time it is only for foreigners, that is, what about those interested in the island? According to what they told me in future opportunities, interested Cubans will be able to attend, where in addition ... we would pay a different amount of money, since our income level is completely different.

Nothing, congratulations to those who attend, by the way, if you like, we could meet here in the capital and we'll get to know each other. DesdeLinux 😉

regards

The CESOL Center has already offered several courses for nationals. And very soon it will be launching new offers, for now it is a great opportunity for many professionals from the rest of the globe.
Greetings to my family DesdeLinux and Thank you very much for helping us.

    Damn injustice.

In Cuba we call it "internal blockade" 🙁

Hello, in my country Chile, a university degree is worth 30.000 dollars and you have to go into debt for your entire life to pay for it, instead you have free degrees as it should be.

And so the saying is fulfilled: "God gives bread to the one who has no teeth", we have free careers and good training but job opportunities are on the ground, there is no innovation in the field of information technology, processes are managed with papers like 30 years ago when the processes were established, when the first graduates of the UCI appeared in the newspapers every so often complaining that being an engineer they put him in companies that the only thing they did with the computer was Excel tables and for the style.

With this I am not saying that we want a Silicon Valley but, gosh, 21st century mind that every time you mention a new idea you find that it has to go through 20 different levels of auth to be able to implement it, nothing that comes a time when we put ourselves in "Vegetable mode".

Very good news so there should be courses in my country, but here they do not think of Free Software as a good alternative to Private Software.

I suppose it is to finance itself… The initiative is very good, anyway.

I do not know the Cuban reality, although I see it with sympathy, since many people are of Spanish descent. This initiative, in principle, seems good to me, except that it is not the same for everyone, which, when transferred to free software, seems like it is not acceptable.

Ugly detail that Cubans cannot attend this time.
I find it difficult to find justification.

It seems that it has a very varied content, I don't know if those who attend will be able to learn very specific things. Well, I still understand that it is introductory, for those who are IT professionals but do not yet fully handle linux.

What doesn't add up to me is that Cubans. I understand that if you say that it is blended, it is because there are some classes that you have to attend, therefore it would be much more successful if they opened it clearly to Cubans. In short, the nonsense of some things.

    1.    Abel Garcia Vitier said

There are 3 courses, for different profiles and they will take place in parallel. The blended modality is because a time is foreseen for independent study in addition to the 20 contact hours (4h per day). About why for foreigners I already left a comment about it. Everything has a meaning, it depends on the perspective.

Not wanting to be on the side of anyone, but it sounds like they have taken the same course available only to local students several times without being able to allow access to foreign students and they have set up this course a bit as compensation for them.

  9.   Abel Garcia Vitier said

I respect your comments but I would like to clarify that this call only for foreigners has been made to respond to the demand from abroad that these three courses in particular have. In Cuba, the postgraduate degree offered by universities for Cubans is FREE and these courses are convened and convened in our usual Winter and Summer Schools and if any Cuban institution wishes to train a group in these courses, they can make the request and our teachers of very willingly and without paying anything for it. Greetings to all and I hope I have clarified the doubt.

Definitely Cuba is a model to follow for all the nations of the planet, this type of educational policies are not part of the government programs in many countries that are not developed. And this goes too, although it hurts for my country, even when talking about revolution in Nicaragua, the government continues to use Windows XP (no longer supported) and the machines, a majority are of the type pentium III and IV.
It's a pity that I cannot compete for this, the good thing is that young people have this great opportunity and as for the Cuban brothers, the new generation, I must say, is living a stage never before experienced by any generation in any country, and therefore they must capitalize it. Congratulations friends desdelinux.

Hello, first of all that comment that "Cuba is a model to be followed by the whole world" (sic) do we all have to go back in time and lower our level in medicine, technology, education, civil and economic liberties? All because they give 4 courses »free»? In Europe they also give and not only courses but the entire career "free" and we vibrate in freedom and we do not kill anyone who wants to go to the USA or South America or Africa so less talk straw and especially those who do not live and "enjoy" that communist dictatorship Cheers

Can I ask you a question? Internet access for Cubans, how is it? I understood that you did not have access to the www

    Greetings.

  12.   jose said

Oh and also how do they connect to the internet? Via smartphone? Via fiber? Via wifi? At what velocity? 50 megs? Do you plan to go up one gig and one down in a few months? Are there many free wifi points? And finally, where are they supposed to work? I imagine they would use a router made in Cuba or Albania because otherwise it would betray the revolution, let's continue with what we do and let them know that each town has the government it deserves.

The course that will be taught is very good, but it is not for Cubans, that is a shame, it should have been for everyone and paid for.
