Unity on HP Mini Netbook

Yesterday I had to uninstall Xubuntu of the Netbook that I am using now and I installed it Ubuntu, so as is logical I am using Unity.

When I commented on it via Twitter some people couldn't believe it, and I don't even believe it, but it was what I had at hand and I needed to work when before. I'm not going to lie to you Unity it performs quite well and I like how practical it can be on these types of devices. I had to uninstall Xubuntu because for some reason, when activating some key combinations, everything would freeze, or sometimes the menus did not respond. At times, I had to restart the session to be able to use the Netbook again.

As you will understand, having so little time to dedicate to finding solutions, the most practical thing is to use something that works well the first time. If I had the iso of Linux Mint 13 I would have installed it, but what I had on hand was Ubuntu 12.04. So far I can't complain about anything. Although I still see that Unity it doesn't run as smoothly as I'd like, at least in the netbook it is much faster than on the PC.

When Xfce 4.10 between the Debian TestingThen I'll see what I do .. This is what my desktop looks like now 😀

Naaah bro, nothing happens;), as long as it's Linux, no problem XD. The wallpaper is very nice ^. ^

In addition to the fact that Unity favors mniscreens like yours a lot, it is a martyrdom to work with widescreen applications ¬.¬

If you knew not so much, what unity needs is a deep work in compiz, it really needs that, for the rest it is decent ...

I imagine you are using Unity 2D

One more that goes to the dark side ... = '(

How is it going to be possible to have Ubuntu on hand (I suppose because it came out longer than Mint).

    Moral: Don't stop downloading Mint.

    o.0 Today I download MAYA.

but why call it dark side?

it is only an operating system not a bible nor a religion it is only a tool as is linux mint.

It is that here what is achieved first is Ubuntu, Debian and similar distros. Tell them I want to be now in Gnome-Fallback and I love it. The feeling that I'm still in Gnome 2 it is not removed 😀

Guys, using Ubuntu is normal, Unity is a new paradigm, which adapts very well to a modern desktop, these people are innovating although many only dedicate themselves to criticizing everything that has the Ubuntu name. That is bad for free software, try to unite everyone not to separate by likes, distros, or whatever.
    Greetings.

If Ubuntu could put Compiz on a diet (or outright use another composer) and prevent it from wasting resources, Unity would be much more fluid and usable. Especially if you have in mind to remove Unity 2D.

@elav: Is everything working fine? Did you recognize everything? My daughter is struggling with Win 7 on an HP Mini 110, but I'm not really sure Linux works well for her. I already had several problems with WiFi and sound.

Dice elav yes, yes ... everything works fine. Only he does not remember at this moment what model exactly it is, but it is HP Mini, only that the number does not remember (that usually happens at his age ... LOL !!)

Take advantage of poor elav now that he is far away, when he comes back we will see what you say, hahahaha.

Hi Elav. I greet you from Ubuntu Studio 12.04, which has pleasantly surprised me. I'm from an HP Mini Netbook, and with Dualboot I have Ubuntu 12.04 with Unity. I like to use it. To give better performance to this little machine, I give enough capacity to the exchange area, and I have installed an application called zRam and with 2clickupdate. With that I can work with Unity 3D with some stability, and with Unity 2D really very well.

On another laptop, with a Core i5, I really don't need to do anything. Everything runs fine: Linux Mint, Fedora and I want to install Mageia 😀

    Greetings.

I am testing it on a msi cr610 lap and it is very comfortable to work with unity, although I did not believe it is already quite usable, if some details, the only thing that does not work for me is that the HDMI port does not pass me audio, but video Yes, by the way you don't know how I can solve it, I already looked at the sound settings and selected HDMI as the default output and it still can't be heard.

I was about to install Ubuntu 10.04 on my HP mini, but reading this article I have launched myself to Ubuntu 12.04. I thought that 12.04 asked too much for a Netbook and the truth is, for the little that I have, I think it is going quite well.

The same thing that you mentioned in this great article had happened to me and hence I started to investigate how to load Unity in XFCE (Xubuntu 12.04), just in case there is still curiosity, the performance of the equipment is not really lost at all, right now I am using it on an Acer Aspire One netbook!
