Valve publishes job offer for Linux software engineer.

Stop everything you are supposed to do and read this news carefully!

From OMG! Ubuntu! A strange rumor reaches us. Apparently Valve is finally developing its Steam platform for Linux. Why do I say it? Because in the news they mention that Valve has published a job offer for a senior software engineer within Steam, and what makes it sound juicier is that what other news has made sound is that, within the six responsibilities of this software engineer is:

"Port Windows-based games to the Linux platform."

What would be:

"Import windows-based games to the Linux platform."

Which has left many of us with a face of OMFG! That cannot be represented even with memes ...

And do not believe, the controversy and speculation are already beginning about what could be the cause of this possible arrival of Steam to Linux ... Could it be that they are finally beginning to take into account the growth of Linux? Or is it that Desura, their competition, has already taken the lead and makes fun of them? It is not known, but what I can be sure of is that the future of Linux gamers would be about to see its golden age if this really happens, we would have two platforms fighting to stay afloat in a new market and that is going to mean benefits for customers…. AND GAMES! GAMES IN LINUX!

Obviously not everything is rosy since we do not have native DirectX, so only games that support or run with OpenGL will be the ones that will run, which is not bad either since there are many games that use OpenGL that only work on Windows and which are great.

And what do you think? Come on, let go of those fingers and write!

The low amount of games in Linux has been a point against, hopefully with this. It is announced that Linux can also be a great videogame platform and give competition to the «others» 😀

Hopefully, if they release the steam platform for Linux and manage to import some games, the market may start to see Linux as just another platform to develop their games.
    ...
But for now this is called being optimistic.

.... AND GAMES! GAMES IN LINUX!

    hahahahahahaha +10 nano + 10….

and that would mean that there would be better driver support from both the owners and the community.

Great, but for now I'll settle for Dolphin Emulator (Wii and Game Cube :))

Well I think it's great to see if finally the graphics drivers in Linux are at the same level as Windows. But there is, this man that you are going to hire will do all the work of porting games to Linux.
    Go superman.

It is not to lower the spirits, but if you read the comments of OMGUbuntu, you will know that this offer has been around for a long time (several years, even in the offer you can see the old design of Valve's website), and that most likely it is already do not look for anyone. Of course, it is true, at least as far as I know, that they do make progress (very slow, but they do) in porting Steam to Linux.

Hopefully it won't take long for that day to arrive… 😛

PS: You should see the news that came out almost 2 years ago in Phoronix about the Linux version of Steam, and it is not ready yet ...

I think Steam is going to last. From time to time there is also talk of a directx for linux ...

I hope they work it out and well. Possibly because of what you said, Desura, the "only" current direct competition against Steam. Looking forward to seeing the day that comes… ..
