VirtualBoxes: Ready-to-use VirtualBox images

En VirtualBoxes we can find images already prepared for VirtualBox different operating systems, which is tremendously useful if we like to evaluate systems in virtual machines and do not want to waste much preparing the installation.

Each image contains the latest software. Updates with the latest packages are for each one.

Default usernames and passwords, where required, can be found next to the download link for each image. Of course, it is always possible to create your own username, or at least change the passwords, if you intend to use the images in a public environment.

Personally, I found this site tremendously useful, especially for retesting older distributions (like Ubuntu 10.10, for example). However, it can also be useful to install Android-x86 or Minix and many other free operating systems.

How to use the images

1.- Download the image of the distribution that interests you. Unzip the file where it suits you best.

2.- Open Virtualbox and create a new virtual machine: in "Virtual machine name and operating system type", choose one of "Linux", "BSD" or "Other", and then choose the profile that best suits your image in "Version".

In "Memory", leave everything as is, unless you really need more RAM allocated.

In the "virtual hard disk", select "Use existing hard disk", and select the virtual disk image file that you downloaded and unzipped in the first step.
