We already have with us the new version of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

ubuntu-18.04-lts-1

Well then today we already have among us the new stable version of Ubuntu, thus reaching his version Ubuntu 18.04 Codenamed Bionic Beaver, its great development team is pleased to announce the new release.

With which we will begin to enjoy the new features, fixes and corrections of the previously detected errors thanks to the preliminary versions released during the past months.

This entire cycle followed a calendar which I show you below:

  • November 30: Function definition freeze
  • January 4: Alpha 1 release
  • February 1: Alpha 2 release
  • March 1: Feature freeze
  • March 8: first beta release
  • April 5: final beta version
  • April 19: final freeze
  • April 26: stable release on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

What's New in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Bionic Beaver

Now as everyone will know, Ubuntu decided to leave Unity to return to Gnome in the past version and in this version we continue with Gnome as the default environment and to be more exact in its version 3.28.

Also one of the promises that Canonical made based on this new version is better boot speed in Ubuntu 18.04. With that using systemd features, bottlenecks will be identified and addressed to get the system up and running as quickly as possible.

I'm sure that many of you already want to know what Canonical brings us with this new release. Well, you can immediately detect the new wallpapers added in this version which is the following:

As for the heart of the system what is the Linux kernel We will have version 4.15 of the Kernel, although initially it had been considered to use version 4.14.

In the previous version the Ubuntu team made a decision to establish Wayland as a graphics server which naturally became a big problem since a considerable number of applications would not work in Wayland. This forced people to return to Xorg from Wayland.

With what In this version of Ubuntu 18.04 we will have the default Xorg server in the system, although Wayland will continue to be available as an option and users will be able to switch to the display server of their choice.

Also a change that you will notice almost immediately is to the new look they have given to the Nautilu file managers which time they have given a dark touch to the left panel where we have access to our user folders, as well as to our connected drives.

In this new appearance, a small separation of the icons is made, leaving them as an independent column.

Also something that caught my attention is that In this new version of Ubuntu 18.04 some usage data will be collected from the system unless you decide not to participate.

This is the type of data that Ubuntu 18.04 will collect:

  • Ubuntu version and flavor you are installing
  • If you have network connectivity at the time of installation
  • Hardware statistics like CPU, RAM, GPU, etc.
  • Device manufacturer
  • Your country
  • Time required to complete the installation
  • Whether you choose automatic login, installation of third-party codecs, download of updates during installation
  • Disc layout
  • The Ubuntu Popcon service will track the popularity of applications and packages
  • Bug reports
  • The result of the data thus collected will be available to the public for analytical purposes.

Normally Ubuntu 18.04 ISO should have been available by now. But there appears to be a critical bug identified at the last minute and it is being fixed at the moment.

But you can be aware of this from the following link to download it as soon as it is available.

All you have to do is wait for it to be corrected to be able to enjoy this new version of the system, at the moment I am going to install it since I am waiting for a derivative of this that I am using.

      Hello Diego, good day.
The distribution I am using is called Voyager Linux and being more specific is its GS version, even though it has published a version based on the Ubuntu 18.04 beta, at the moment I am using 16.04.
      Greetings.
