RAM boost:
As I have said on some occasions already, at this moment the blog DesdeLinux.net is hosted on a VPS GnuTransfer, the VPS RAM is 2GB and the blog is working spectacularly (as you have noticed in the excellent performance). However, thanks to the immense help of the guys at GnuTransfer, we will increase the RAM of the VPS from 2GB to 3GB, we will take it as life insurance, in order to ensure 99% that the blog is never offline due to scarce resources on the server.
As a result of this they might notice that the blog is offline for a few minutes.
Hostgator presenting problems:
As you may have noticed, we had issues today because of Hostgator. The problem itself is that your browsers cannot know which server specifically on the Internet the blog is located on.desdelinux.net, all because Hostgator (who manages our DNS records) has decided today, once again, to perform "maintenance tasks" or something similar.
I am not against giving maintenance to their servers or nodes, for nothing, just ... by God, any professional in this branch, before doing anything, warns, notifies their clients so that later they do not feel like a cat in Moon.
You can read about it here: http://forums.hostgator.com/network-event-provo-data-center-t278660.html?p=474301#post474301
It's not maintenance, it's a power outage. They screwed up the datacenter ... 8 hours ago I had my sites down ... a hostgator slump.
No way… cat Hostgator> / dev / null
I've been there for 6 months, first with shared, and a month ago I put a VPS, I had no problems so far. I spent the whole month fine-tuning the VPS and it's like moving house ... you can't do it all the time.
Anyway, I'm going to see how you guys are doing with Gnutransfer, and I'm seeing it favorably.
GNUTransfer is great. They have their own panel to control the VPS .. well, KZKG ^ Gaara give you better info ..
And have you considered trying the zVPS? It is from the same creators of ZPanel.
In a few days I will make a post talking about GnuTransfer (when we make it official that we spend 100% with them), there I will explain several things that I am sure will be of interest to several
I look forward to that post 🙂
Right now I was taking a look at GNUTransfer to see how it works, the payment method fits me, because I save $ 60 if I buy the whole year .. that fits me
Hopefully everything goes well with that new hosting company and that you can share a great article about VPS with GNUTransfer.
I have almost finished the post 🙂
In fact, the problem is not hostgator, but in the Ace Data Centers datacenter and it is also affecting other companies that have servers placed in that physical space, such as bluehost and HostMonster. more information here: http://www.thewhir.com/web-hosting-news/network-issues-cause-hostgator-provo-data-center-outage
This is where I see the value of the new hosting services in the cloud and / or cloud servers, where your website does not depend on a single physical platform, but rests in virtual instances within a cloud of servers that (ideally) are distributed in different locations and different geographical points; which are automatically switched in case of failures and backed up automatically, allowing you to clone or recover an instance in a matter of minutes.
That the server handles the DNS is very bad in several ways: / they should migrate the domain to a company that allows them to have control of DNS, I learned that the hard way. But even so, the good news is that they are just a little short of all this being ready: D.
Yes, we are thinking of NameCheap (because elav does not dare to install the DNS by ourselves hahahahahaha !!!!)
We are close to going 100% Hostgator
It is not that I do not want to install the DNS, but because if we have the DNS in the same blog server and the VPS goes down, the same thing happens with Hostgator. It is better that the DNS is in another place and not in the same VPS.
You are right. The most recommended thing is that they get a free or professional anycast DNS service apart from the servers, which will allow them a more efficient handling and faster response times before any inconvenience.
I told you that HostGator was a disgrace. A week with them and has not stopped in crashes, terrible lags (the same as the ones I saw here), connection errors to the database ...
I am moving out of hosting right now.
And zVPS? He's from the UK, and he's one of the creators of the ZPanel. For now they are with CentOS and Ubuntu Server, but I hope they expand their catalog of operating systems.
I don't want a VPS, I want a shared one (I have neither money, nor time, nor desire to maintain a VPS).
I use a German server, top quality at a reasonable price.
It has never given me a problem, I repeat, never ...
Greetings.
We have bought a VPS at Alvotech.de and it is quite stable, we just have too many services there and the blog could not be put there as a joke 🙂
I come to figure and say that Gnutransfer is the best. 🙂 Haha!
Greetings team!
Pablo.
The migration is ready, we are already in a VPS with 3GB of RAM 😉
That gnutransfer seems somewhat expensive to me, for a little less than that price I get VPS in a well-known company (I do not place it so as not to look like a spammer) and with 8 GB of RAM and unlimited traffic connected to a 100 MBPS link.
I hope you do very well, have you thought about optimizing? (nginx + php-fpm + varnish + w3 total cache + use wordpress.com CDN)
Say what that hosting is, we will not take it as spam.
The blog is already optimized with Nginx + MySQL + PHP5 + APC + W3 Total Cache (although it seems that Gaara only spends the day watching silly anime, he is a system administrator by profession;)).
The WordPress.com CDN (Photon) did not quite convince me.
I know there may be better deals or providers, but sometimes it's not all about the money really. The guys at GnuTransfer have had more than excellent attention to us, I'll talk about this in a post shortly (today or tomorrow)
Regarding optimizing the site, as Manuel told you, currently the VPS already has 3GB of RAM, using Nginx + MySQL + PHP5 + APC + W3_Total_Cache (WP plugin).
Everything properly installed, configured and optimized 🙂
And don't worry, you can leave the link, it won't be considered SPAM 😉
Well, since Hostgator belongs to the EIG group there are many complaints by webhostingtalk about that company, migrate as soon as possible.
Utopia mode ON: let's set up a datacenter with our own servers + games of chance and sluts!
[troll face]
The datacenter is not a problem. The problem is gambling, as there are legal obstacles and therefore it is more accessible to use consoles as a replacement for gambling. Sluts are even harder to come by, although it is easier to find good quality cosplay girls.
[/ trollface].
It would be a hidden mini-casino that would be accessed through a hidden door in one of the datacenter racks, where there would be a staircase to descend to the underground.
HAHAHA I like this idea of accessing a hidden room through a secret door in a server rack 😀
Hostgator was a good service, but unfortunately they made the decision to trust lousy servers. Previously, those who used the servers for Windows Server complained about the constant crashes of their servers (of that the problem is supposed to be due to the Windows Server itself), but as for GNU / Linux, I think it at least made me think twice in choosing this service.
For now, I am debating between two services: GNUTransfer and zVPS. Apparently, the GNUTransfer gives me a better chance to pay with bitcoins, which the zVPS won't let me do.
many changes in a very short time. Until now I am aware of the magnitude of the change that resulted in uniting DesdeLinux and Let's UseLinux. But always to improve. Excellent.
Uff you can't imagine…. This you have seen is just the tip of the iceberg, we spent a lot of time coordinating logistics and preparing for what was to come, and yet we have had many surprises and setbacks.
I would like, in the not so distant future to be able to understand EVERYTHING that has been said here 🙂
configure everything, dns, mysql, php, etc etc etc
it would be great
About understanding DNS, here are several posts on how to configure Bind9 - » https://blog.desdelinux.net/tag/bind9
On how to install MySQL + Apache + PHP we still leave two posts about it:
https://blog.desdelinux.net/instalacion-de-un-entorno-lamp-en-debian-y-derivados/
https://blog.desdelinux.net/como-instalar-lamp-en-ubuntu-la-forma-facil/
We draw on the same knowledge that is here on the blog 😀
regards
Great job that you do continuously so that the community is there at the top, thanks again team.
Long life to DesdeLinux : )
Did you think of using Joomla, instead of WordPress?
I ask it from zero knowledge in web matter. Although it does not mean that you read.
I have read that Joomla is better when a site receives many visits, or when the site is going to be more or less important, in terms of visits; and that the user system is better in Joomla. Administrator users and writers, etc.
I ask for his opinion, especially @elav, who I think is in charge of the design and programming of the web.
Thanks and greetings to the entire community.
WordPress fits perfectly for the type of site we are, a dynamic site, whose content is constantly updated or changed (blog). Joomla (as well as Drupal) I believe in my modest opinion, it is for different sites, more static so to speak.
And… personally, I would die if I had to use Joomla for something again, LOL!
If you have a VPS and install Varnish with 2GB of RAM you will be able to withstand avalanches of 40.000 concurrent users.
I am dedicated to lightening WordPress sites and your site, due to the characteristics it has, is the ideal candidate to use Varnish.
If you want help, contact me that I am dedicated to this, you will stop having problems and will fly.
I support Carazo's suggestion. Varnish for cache-
