Web development from Debian.

Much is written about the advantages of certain distributions in server, smartphone, desktop or development environments. But little is known about the advantages these offer developers and particularly for those who rely on the web.

Debian As a distribution it supports development in different environments and one of them is the web, but in my opinion they only limit it in the posts that are usually published to the applications on which the projects are based, understand Apache, PHP, MySQL and all those technologies that are used by developers, ending in development IDEs as Netbeans y Eclipse to name a few.

But does it really support distributions like Debian does it limit itself to providing technology and IDEs ?, clearly not. The support is extended even more, providing developers with libraries either Javascript or PHP to mention a few, frameworks for development, documentation and applications that although unknown to most are there to facilitate our lives.

Among the main bookstores and it is the point on which I want to focus, we can find at our disposal for example jQuery and a not inconsiderable group of plugins for the same, jQuery UI and Ext JS. On the other hand we have manuals like The alternative jQuery documentation, which in my modest criteria is a point of reference for those who develop with this library, we also have the documentation of Ext JS, jQuery UI and not to be totalitarian of almost all the available libraries.

Everything exposed for our advantage is grouped in the section of Word wide web for those who use Synaptic, and that with clicks we can have at our disposal, that if, all grouped by the prefix libjs-.

Or for terminal lovers:

apt-cache search libjs-

Once installed we can find them in the directory not so explored / usr / share / javascript /

In the case of documentation, it is grouped in the section Documentation and to access we do it through the / usr / share / doc directory.

So far, this is my first contribution to DesdeLinux...

Excellent data, I did not know about the existence of these packages and I particularly use many of them.
Thanks for the information, very good post.
    Greetings.

The reality is that we do not know the potential that distros like Debian offer for development and the first thing we do is go out and search instead of review, it is also just the beginning of a series of articles on the possibilities of Debian for developers.

      regards

It has been a long time since it has been a question of lack of applications, in Linux it can be developed in an amazing way in the field of web, design, programming, BD, what now is, is to put the desire on our part to develop in our favorite environment , GNU / linux! ^^

It is a great truth, Linux has long ceased to be a system for Gurus, only that many do not want to recognize it yet

However, relying on these packages does not help the "12 factors": http://www.12factor.net/

It is better to depend on the package managers for each development platform (gems in ruby, pip in python, etc ...).

It is relative whether or not to depend on package managers, for example I use Codeigniter in all the projects that require them, along with Bootstrap and JQuery and the truth is that it is not a problem for me, although I am always consulted on blogs that in my opinion are from reference and github. But more than packages or managers is to exploit what we have and that each element is good at what it does and I take as a reference each Unix / Linux command that performs only one operation but does it well and if we combine them it becomes the perfect machinery.

Hello! I have little time reading and going through this page! the content is really very good, all the posts are very good and interesting! This caught my attention, congratulations to whoever ventured and made this post! I started using Ubuntu for a while and then I decided to switch to Debian and I'm testing kde, and as a developer, I'm also reading and looking at libraries, especially java, and I realized one day exploring aptitude (yes, the interface console, I know, oO) that there were many java libraries and more things that I have used such as spring, spring security, hibernate and others, so little by little I realize that everything we need has always been there, just to find them! as a colleague said in his comment above, "it is putting desire on our part", greetings
