What is XDM?

According to his Official website en sourceforce and Developer, this app is:

"A powerful tool capable of increasing download speed up to 500%, save and convert videos from YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Google Video and thousands of other websites, resume interrupted or dead downloads, and schedule downloads".

In addition, he adds that it integrates perfectly with Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox Quantum, Opera, Vivaldi and many popular browsers, to take over the downloads and save the streaming videos of the web. And it has a built-in video converter that allows you to convert downloaded videos to popular ones MP4 and MP3 formats.

And finally, he describes that currently xdm includes support for:

  • HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, DASH, HLS, HDS protocols,
  • Use of Firewalls, Proxy Servers, PAC Scripts,
  • File redirections, Cookie handling, Authorizations, Download queues, among many others.

Installation and use

xdm currently going for the stable version number 7.2.11 with installers available for both Windows, as Mac OS and Linux. However, it easily keeps installers available for older versions, such as, the version 7.2.10 and 7.2.8 at their official site on GitHub.

In my personal case, I have downloaded it to your portable version under the ".jar" format made in java (11). Taking advantage of that, my MX Linux distribution I have it configured very well, so that it efficiently manages (executes) the use of this format.

When running XDM, it shows us a Graphical User Interface (GUI) clean and simple, as shown in the image immediately above, which will indicate whether or not there is a new version available to download and use.

And it also shows us a window, which invites us to install a plugin download management, for some of the Web browsers more common. In my case, I currently use Mozilla Firefox, so it has indicated the installation of the following plugin, which I have successfully installed.

    Using the Video DownloadHelper plugin and "Helper App" you can do exactly the same thing using only the open browser.
