Xfce Design SIG: because appearance matters

The developers of Xfce have created a group called SIG (Special Interest Group) who will be in charge of the visual section of this Desktop Environment since apparently they have realized that appearance is important.

In the Xfce Wiki you can see some of the ideas that are proposed to be included in future versions. Take a look at the proposal accepted or that are in active development.

I particularly find the idea great. Maybe from here good projects will come out that improve even more the usability of some components such as Thunar. What do you think?

At last it will evolve for the striking and more functional thunar, and I do not mean that it is a brick without options, but aesthetically and functionally gnome nautilus, it takes thunar a step forward, and what thunar has in favor is which is configurable and lightweight. I hope that very soon we will see aesthetic improvements to thunar and all of xfce.

    The changes I see are… mmm… almost imperceptible 🙁
In fact I can only distinguish one, and it honestly took me about 3 minutes to look closely at the image to recognize it.

Did you dedicate yourself to seeing all the changes? Thunar doesn't have many (for now), but there are some very interesting ones. Also, only an Xfce user would notice the difference and I don't think that's the case for you 😛

But is this post not only for Xfce users or not? ... that is, this interests both Xfce users and those of other environments (since they could consider Xfce as another option or not), therefore ...
Would you be so kind as to point out to us non-Xfce users, those many differences that exist?
Well, obviously there is more than one, according to your comment 🙂

I see that you intend to build a flame. Let's see "not Xfce user" if what you're trying to say is that your KDE is more complete, and that Dolphin is the panacea, you can save space in the DB by not putting your comment. As I already told you, you are not (and will never be) an Xfce user to know that minute changes can be found, however, once again I invite you to see the link that I put in the post.

Man don't get like that either haha, it's that honestly ... I don't see any change except one, I leave the image as I see it here:
            https://blog.desdelinux.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/thunar-window-layout1.png

You know that I wear glasses, and that maybe after having worked a lot today (we both did), I am somewhat out of focus and have not seen the other changes / novelties, so come on, what are they? ^ - ^ U
Honestly, I don't see any other.

PS: At what point did you get the power to see the future, to know that I will never (very strong word believe me) be an Xfce user?

            1.    elav <° Linux said

In the image in question there are not many changes, in fact, the only thing that changes is the position of the status bar, but I repeat, look at the other links. And I don't have to see the future to know that you believe that KDE is the best in the world, and if it is the best in the world (as you also believe that you are) then you will always use it .. 😛

I think it was time for them to dedicate their makeup to XFCE, as things are, it can have a very promising future.
It seems that your partner came riotous and very sarcastic, or is it my imagination?

    1.    KZKG ^ Gaara <"Linux said

Nah hehe, a little sarcastic maybe, nothing more 😀

    2.    elav <° Linux said

Exact. They should give it a little more personality, and I think that's the goal of SIG. And yes, the colleague came motivated to create flame wars ...

Xfce to take off needs a critical mass of users, community support, financial support and programmers, ...
Being a bit more used after those of us migrating away from Gnome 3 and its variants, its time to flourish may come soon.

    1.    elav <° Linux said

Let me tell you, I'm a bit disappointed on that. I explain. On the Xfce mailing list there has been a long discussion about including tabs in Thunar. Xfce developers are reluctant to include them as they say consumption would rise and Thunar would lose its simplicity. I explained to them myself that wearing eyelashes increases productivity, but those guys are a bit of a caveman. They say that when we copy something, we don't need more than two windows open, and therefore, we can open two windows with Thunar independently.

Nothing, we have to wait for a user of the forum who said that maybe he made a fork of Thunar with tabs .. Well, Xfce are not very receptive.

The truth is that I already liked Thunar, let's see if you can put something about this here and we are not left half

I have put what there is ... 😛

  6.   r @ y said

Well, if you don't like Thunar, who uses pcmanfm from LXDE in Xfce is quite light, it opens several tabs and it also has other advantages.

    1.    elav <° Linux said

      Greetings r @ y and welcome:
Well yes, you are right and it is the good thing about GNU / Linux, that we can use whatever we want, but there is a detail: PCManFM is from LXDE, Thunar from Xfce. So that you understand my position, it is like wanting to use Dolphin in Gnome, when it already has Nautilus that is its own.

      1.    r @ y said

True elav but I do not think that anyone other than a compulsive Dolphin fan wants to use it in Gnome and in my case, I use Debian with Xfce and I use PCManFM because it does not install too many extra packages, it has certain advantages and well if one day Thunar reaches what the PCManFM currently does migrate.

      2.    Courage said

By that rule of 3 that Kde users don't use Firefox or Gnome users don't use Kdenlive.

        It's silly

        1.    elav <° Linux said

Maybe it's silly, but it's still true. If I have an application that is native to my Desktop Environment, why do I have to use another?

          1.    aarone said

I don't think it's silly ... for example ... why use Firefox on windows if it already comes standard with its nefarious Internet Explorer? Well, I sincerely think that if PCmanFM is more complete, better, more agile, (or whatever), being able to be used in the same way in xfce, do it, you will always gain in utility, and if the xfce team refuses to improve thunar already add utilities to it, since I don't think you should "fool" other options, it would make you look like a xfce taliban. The good thing about linux is that if you don't like something or find something better, use it, as simple as that.
            Greetings.
