Are you aiming to translate LFS (Linux From Scratch)?

linux-from-scratch

Linux From Scratch is a way to install a system GNU / Linux developing all components manually. This is naturally a longer process than installing a Linux distribution precompiled. According to the site of Linux From Scratch, the advantages of this method are a compact, flexible and secure system and provides great knowledge of how a GNU / Linux operating system works.

Wikipedia

LFS is a project that all linuxers we must know, it is about compiling, creating, packaging and customizing our own distribution to the point of boredom. Normally this distribution is oriented for two types of users, the elite and the curious (I include myself in the latter) and makes the installation of Arch (which on the other hand is quite simple).

This project, like any good project, has great documentation but it is in English, so for Spanish-speaking users (From the sides of the pond) it is a bit more complex, especially for those who overwhelm us with so much English page. Unfortunately, the translation of LFS It got stuck in version 6.3 and we are currently on 7.4, the manual is about 340 pages, which for a server, is a lot of work and taking advantage of this speaker that is DesdeLinux, I would like to propose this project.

We would need translators and proofreaders, the more we are, the less work we will have to do individually and the sooner we will finish. Those who sign up, leave a comment here and / or send me an email to carlos.sgude [at] gmail [dot] com with the title [LFS translation], when we are a few, I will create a mailing list and we will begin to distribute the work.

Obviously, I will get in touch with the previous project, through their mailing lists, to see if we can revive it and add more people.

I believe that these types of projects are important and that a community as rich as the Hispanic community, which does not have a version for our language, seems fatal to me and I think we should find a solution.

Your initiative seems great to me. If we get to a good number, COUNT ON ME. I emphasize the good number because I do not have much time, and if it turns out that the volume of work is very large I will have to get off the hook, but first I SIGN UP.

At the moment, we are 1 person (a server) until I have 5 or 6 people, I will not do anything, but I will point you (also, send me an email to keep you safe)

I'm in. Although I consider myself an advanced user, what is the operation, I do not handle, Linux is too big for me, but I am good at writing, so I offer myself as a proofreader if you like.

I sign up = D I have previously followed the LFS book, I was also terrified of the contrast to the installation of arch «Simple»

    1.    Carlos Gude said

Actually it is not that complex, (let's see it is not windows) you just have to put the commands and go knowing what they do. Once you get the base system (30 min with a good internet connection) it is easier, if you have doubts you can always connect to the Arch wiki with lynks and follow the steps.

They sold Arch to me as a very complex installation, but it doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

      1.    braybaut said

Exactly yes sir, arch installation is simple and it is worth knowing that you have to take into account what each command does.

I installed Arch in exactly half an hour, and another half hour to put the finishing touches on. Between Arch and Slackware, they are the best KISS distros that I have enjoyed so far.

It sounds great, there is a project called Duolingo, it consists of people who are learning English translate internet pages, pass the proposal of this page there, so from the start you will have thousands of translators and proofreaders, make the proposal

I sign up, I don't know much about Linux yet, but I want to learn about it because it fascinates me, I am also one of those who is overwhelmed by reading so many pages in English, obviously I know English, at an intermediate level, but I would prefer to read more information on my own Language is better in many ways.

I understand that a translation by google is not very reliable. but it is understood very well, to use for the moment.

Good luck with your project, I would really like to contribute but I consider that my level of English, not so basic, is not at the level of what a technical translation requires.
And also congratulate you because yours is the only purposeful post that has appeared on this blog (once so good) for a long time

You can be an editor, you can run the wiki, you can do a lot of things, send me your email and we will surely make room for you !!

I would but I'm in a period of extreme vagrancy XD

By the way, installing Gentoo from stage1 is very similar
I am a gentoo user, I wanted a little bit and believe me, a little more and I would have overthrown Debian from my heart as a good distro that it is, it leaves arch very, very behind.

I am currently an Archlinux user, it seems to me an excellent distro, maybe I will soon migrate to Gentoo which is my next challenge and as I recently read the following:

as I read in a forum that in the life of a linuxero it is like this:
ubuntu, fedora, opensuse, etc ..> school
Archlinux, slackware, crux> preparatory (or college)
    Gentoo> university
    LFS [linux from scratch]> PhD
hahahaha it's not to be taken seriously, but as you can see, the difficulty levels xD

from Helena Ryuu in her G + (https://plus.google.com/u/0/111770502894592063090/posts/gYnGSVdErPW), for me the most complicated distro within Gnu / Linux up to that day was Gentoo, but never in my life as a user have I heard about LFS, I was interested, I started looking for information and I also thought the same, today I read this post and I wonder if something was achieved, I include myself in the group right now I send the email, I would like to know what the result is

    regards
