Slow Youtube? Good bandwidth? (Fix it)

Before starting I want to say that I really like the new Blog Theme and how it is growing.

c767d447a5f4413a22cba63c6161227a

Now, getting to the point. I am one of those who blog there and there. I have seen the occasional forum flooded with people who say that the videos of Youtube They are slow (especially in Spain I have read these things) although its download speed and bandwidth are good.

Many say their ISPs block or "cap" Youtube so that it costs us more. I don't want to get into the discussion about this. I don't know if it's true or not. the point is that it is quite annoying that a person has to wait several minutes for a video (not even in HD) to load and be able to see it.

Many have tried to attribute the problem to DNS. But regardless of the DNS that a person has, the download speed is not really going to change anything.

Well, here is the best solution I could find.

I talk about hello.org

Although I have not tried it because personally I do not have this problem. They say that it is quite effective and that you can immediately watch videos faster.

To test it you can go to the main page and choose the Plug-in for your preferred browser. There is also to install it directly on Windows or MAC but I have also read that they do not work very well like that.

comic_accelerator

I invite those who have this type of problem to try to see how it is. Hopefully they tell us if it works for them or not.

Try it at your own risk

regards

Sorry if I'm wrong, but apparently the "accelerator" is not available as a firefox extension: http://hola.org/download.html?list=1 Clarifies "only Unblocker". In order to use the functionality that is described in the post it is necessary (I insist, apparently as I understand that website) to use windows: /

    1.    @Jlcmux said

Yes. I installed it on my Iceweasel without problems.

  2.   yurinet said

Fix it and you haven't tried it? No comment.

    1.    @Jlcmux said

      I can't test it because I don't have that problem. 😛

Friend, if you haven't tried it, I find it extremely irresponsible to recommend a product blindly. Incidentally, the product is not available for Linux, and this, as far as I know, is a Linux blog. Nothing more than with that fact the post does not make any sense. But the fact that you have created a post without having tried anything seems disrespectful to other readers.

I think it might also work to switch from flash to HTML5 on Youtube, since I've seen that videos load a little faster than in Flash mode.

    1.    eliotime3000 said

That's true, since HTML5 uses a different streaming protocol than flash. At least in HTML5 on Linux it runs faster than Windows.

I changed but not all videos are available

not to mention that Hola also breaks region restrictions on pandora, youtube, google play and other sites

NaOH is available for Firefox, I currently use Firefox and I just installed it, I also use ArchLinux and it let me install it without problems, what I do not notice is much change in Speed but I will continue testing it to see how it works

    1.    NaOH said

Yes, I never said it was not for Firefox, but that add-on is only to unblock access to sites as said [zergdev], at least the one that was installed for me, and according to the page that clarifies «only Unblocker ». Anyway, the functionality that this post talks about, called in hola.org as "Hello Accelerator", as I understood and as I tested, is not available in the firefox extension.

Very good, I suppose what it does is give one's pc an IP from another country so that it is capable of using Hulu, etc.

I have tried OpenNIC but the result is the same. Total I stayed using TPB to see some anime series with English dubbing.

This problem also occurs in Peru, because in these parts it is not only on YouTube, but also on many sites that use flash and make use of streaming (except for shoutcast, which is quite fluid and I have not perceived any interruption ).

To me, the slowdown happens to me every day in the afternoon / night, but it only happens with downloads (includes package updates and Youtube), I have been communicating with several people who have contracted the same internet service The same thing happens to everyone (regardless of the OS, except with Windows but only updates, with YouTube it's the same problem).

  10.   eliotime3000 said

And have you tried OpenNIC? It has worked wonders for me.

There is no version for Linux. If this blog is called DESDELINUX I don't see why put something that doesn't exist in Linux.

I just put one catch, it is not open source. I do not want to get into your "editorial line" but if it is not even open source, nor is it available in GNU / Linux ...

It happens to me and in my case it is very clear that orange is to blame, on weekends from 3 in the afternoon to 2 in the morning, I can't see a 240 p on YouTube, and with orange there are thousands of people complaining in adslzone ...

I have previously left a comment that no longer appears. I was trying to clarify that this software is neither open source nor available on GNU / Linux. Any ideas about what could have happened so that my previous comment no longer appears?

I went to the web, identified that I was using Chrome and it installed without problems. But when I tried to enter YouTube, the page appeared unavailable. I deactivated the Hello functionality and again saw the Youtube website. I ended up deleting the plug-in. It did not work for me.

I installed it in firefox but the application icon does not seem to me, therefore I have no idea if it is working or not,

In my case, if there was a minimal increase, what is necessary for the video to flow completely. I did testing watching some trailers in HD, and well, none of them stopped as before activating this plugin.
With Vimeo I did notice a better fluidity.

Does it happen to any of you that when you advance or rewind a YouTube video a bit, it starts loading from scratch at that point.
It's quite annoying because sometimes when the video loaded completely and I want to advance it to a certain point it starts to load again, and everything that it had loaded before was lost.
I don't know if it will be a problem in GNU / Linux or the new YouTube player is really crap.

    1.    eliotime3000 said

The problem is the new Youtube player in flash. Better use the player in HTML5.

      1.    giskard said

I did. One goes to the page
        http://www.youtube.com/html5
and agrees to enter the trial period.
However, not all YouTube videos are in HTML5 yet. When loading a video one can find out by right clicking on it and seeing what appears in the last line of that context menu.

I have installed it in firefox 22 from the web but it doesn't work for me, can someone help me?

    1.    giskard said

It doesn't work for Linux. There is no version for Linux. The only thing for Linux is a blocker that supposedly allows you to watch videos that you cannot watch in your country. That was what you installed.

I have nothing else to thank you, here in Uruguay I had contracted 50mb and could not even exceed 480p on YouTube !!! (Exasperating, I know.) Being that in any other platform, like Netflix etc, I could enjoy 4k as many times as it was available, greetings, and thanks again.
