You can also try, from Amarok, in "Preferences, configure Amarok, Add-ons" and activate iPod support, if you don't already have it activated.
I know you didn't ask me, but I think I can help you.
<° The simple option would be: use Clementine, it really is great for iPods (I say that from experience), quite simple to use and consumes much less resources than amarok.
<° The other option is to check if you have these "libraries" installed: libgpod, libimobiledevice.
Although I use Chakra, it should not vary practically anything: Q I hope I have helped you (for the other one use the forum, but since it is down at the moment, I will make an exception: D)
