I've always wanted to try freeBSD… .. but arch is very comfortable xD

Great, another system that I really like and use, in fact I have several tutorials on my site about this great OS.

It's not very difficult to use and time consuming to set up like Gentoo, but it has a lot of power and a lot of tools.

Thanks for the wallpapers I only had the third

    A greeting

I think the same, about BSD.
But comparing the number of packages or programs with linux
      Are they not very few?

The good thing is that you can install linux (kernel) and use its programs.

      1.    Damian rivera said

        They are officially

        23943 ports

        http://www.freebsd.org/ports/

Ready to use, in Linux I don't know very well how many packages there are.

Apart from loading linux, that's where this part of the power, FreeBSD can have binary compatibility with Linux packages by loading the Linux module

        http://www.freebsd.org/doc/es/books/handbook/linuxemu-lbc-install.html

sudo kldload linux (if you have sudo)

        http://rm-rf.es/instalar-configurar-sudo-en-freebsd/

Besides that you can also install wine

And in addition to their own programs that are very good

Opera, VLC, Vim, Firefox, Gnome programs, KDE, etc (Of course there are also Linux)

        I highly recommend FreeBSD 😀

          "I highly recommend FreeBSD"
          Based on what technical arguments?
For the only _technical_ reason that FreeBSD is worth installing today is because of ZFS.

Like "Based on what technical arguments?"

A system is used if you want to use it, I recommend it because it is very good, in technical requirements you will see if it works for you or not, it is like saying on a Windows page

            I recommend Linux

            And someone says

            "Based on what technical arguments"

The answer would be very long

Operating systems work for different things and if one has their "arguments" to use, if someone follows my advice they will realize what I say (that if it serves their nonsense).

The truth is that I noticed a point of comparison in your comments, on Linux vs FreeBSD, GPL vs BSD license

But you do not have to compare each system is good at something and nobody forces us to use them, besides the comparisons nothing good ever comes out.

            Better

PS: I am a Unixero, so I also use OS X, NetBSD, IOS, among others, so don't take my recommendation very much into account (unless they are Unixeros of course).

            Greetings 😀

"And if one has his" ???

            I meant

            and each one has their

I also use Arch and I understand the comparison, the newest against very old packages, in arch I am already using gnome-shell-3.6.1-3 and in freebsd gnome2.

            Sorry for my comments

Starting with its next version, FreeBSD will stop using the GCC compiler to use CLANG, effectively moving as far as possible from the FSF, GNU-userland and above all the GPL.

I suppose that for servers it is still one of the best options, although with distros like Slackware, Fedora / Cent OS (which incorporate SELinux from the start), Debian or Funtoo and projects like Gentoo Hardened Kernel I think the [Servers] segment is very well covered by much more modern and flexible operating systems.

For my part I put Arch to everything and I never had problems 🙂 A good kernel to use in production is the one patched by grsecurity: http://www.grsecurity.net
