Will Citrus be the new face of LibreOffice?

Citrus is an example of what a nice face lift would look like for LibreOffice, and although it is a mockup, via OMGUbuntu I have found out that this design is being taken into account in the mailing list of the Office Suite.

The design is more than interesting. Not only is it pretty, but the ideas raised in the mailing list message, convert to LibreOffice in a much more dynamic application. An example of this is the image you see below:

With Citrus only the options appear Bold Text o Apply Styles when items that allow these options are selected. They will not be applied from a toolbar or something like that, but from a kind of context menu that is activated when we select a text for example.

The interface would be cleaner and clearer, the elements would be more ordered, and they would be 60% or more accessible based on what I can see in the sketches. Although the discussion has started and nothing has been defined yet, hopefully and the developers of LibreOffice take these ideas into account, because if something needs the Office Suite, is a face lift.

What do you think? You can see all the information about the project in this link.

It's amazing. It is very well thought out and would be much more usable. It also looks great 😉
Let's see if they put a rod in it and see you soon!

The design looks very stylish, hopefully they will adopt it very soon.

Let's hope so. The same monotonous and cavernic interface of LibreOffice is really boring. I just hope that if they ever adopt this mockup, the performance won't suffer.

It would be great to be able to use libreOffice with those interfaces.

I love that everyone in Linux has taken that joint functionality / design path !!

      Welcome Gabriel:
I think we would all appreciate such a change 😀

      Welcome to the site 😀
Yes ... the truth is that a refresh was needed for LibreOffice, which is different from OpenOffice, which is one step ahead NOT only in functionality or compatibility, but also in appearance (this is more important every day).

Greetings and once again, welcome 🙂

How beautiful and simple it looks, I have nothing against the current interface but I like things to be renewed (as long as it is for the better: D)

      Welcome Lucas Matias:
Honestly, the current interface has an air of the 80s or 90s .. I think a change would not be bad at all. I don't have anything against what we currently have either, but it's already boring 😀

      regards

      Welcome to the site 😀
Likewise, as long as it is for the better ... transparencies, gradients, this would make the software more attractive, it will always make it consume more hardware resources, the trick is to achieve the correct balance 🙂

      regards

I like the layout and the idea of pop-up options when selecting part of the text. However, it is hard for me to remember having seen a mockup (proposed from "outside" of X interface development) that ended up looking like the final result (of X interface development). This does not mean that it will not happen in this case either, but if you allow me to doubt it.

But as you yourself mentioned, "I hope" that good proposal is taken into account and a "face lift" similar to that (or better) is carried out.

    Greetings.

Hahaha it's true, one thing is drawn and another is programmed ... Let's wait and see what happens 😀

This would definitely stop my rout to calligra ... I would have to try xD

    1.    elav <° Linux said

Can someone tell me that Calligra has (in addition to the KDE-like interface) that attracts so much attention? Do you have any functionality and options that LibreOffice doesn't?

  9.   gadi said

LibreOffice certainly needs a revamped interface, and if it's focused on applying styles, all the better. I find this proposal very interesting, even more so than other proposals that have been seen previously, although of course there are things that could be improved. A priori I do not know to what extent that contextual menu is comfortable.

If they renew the interface to LibreOffice, with the state of maturity in which it is, and Calligra comes out, which is becoming more and more interesting, we are going to have a very interesting panorama with respect to office suites.

      Welcome gadi:
Well, without a doubt, it will be a constructive war between Office Suites, in the style of the Navigators 😀 The good thing about it is that the users will be the most benefited.

Hopefully that's true, if the LibreOffice guys decide to apply that interface, we'd be much closer to the end of MS Office's reign.
