Dante, our follower and reader, has created a Linux distro to keep in mind: Darwin OS. Comes in 4 flavors: Darwin OS Basic, Darwin OS Design, Darwin OS Office and Darwin OS Studio. Four distributions that combine stability, performance and versatility, having a impeccable aesthetics. |
Each version is optimized to offer the user a comfortable and pleasant experience, mainly for those who migrate to the free world for the first time. Darwin OS has been developed on Ubuntu 10.10 and has the Kernel 2.6.38-8. The interface and performance of the system have been carefully optimized so that the user can enjoy the full potential that this project can offer.
Darwin OS Basic
Download Darwin OS Basic
Darwin OS Design
Download Darwin OS Design
Darwin OS Office
Download Darwin OS Office (part 1) & (part 2)
Darwin OS Office was exceeding the upload limit, so we split it up. It is a .rar file, but we put it in .iso to accept the upload. When you finish downloading, you just have to change the extension .iso to .rar
Darwin OS Studio
Download Darwin OS Studio
The password for Darwin is "evolution" (without quotes)

Congratulations Dante!
You are right the project behind Apple's Darwin OS, it was OpenDarwin. But it didn't give much. But another group is currently making advances in that system called PureDarwin.More info here:

I'VE HAD ENOUGH!!!! I CANNOT EVEN DOWNLOAD IT TO TEST IT… .. IT CUTS ME JUST WHEN IT'S ALREADY 500 OR 600 MEGAS HAPPENS ANYTHING LESS WHAT IT SHOULD, PPFFFFFF !!!!! I REMAIN WITH MANDRIVA.
this custom version of ubuntu called darwin is very bad !!! download it and really lose a lot of the essence of what is open source, free software. very bad job
I thought that Darwin OS already existed and it was this thing that Mac OS was based on or something like that, in short, another custom Ubuntu for the collection.
Yes indeed, as far as I know, Darwin is the kernel (or what the kernel is based on) of Mac OS X and iOS… and it is more or less free software.
There was a project and a community behind Darwin but it dissolved because he "felt" that he was giving and not receiving. "I felt", hence it was like that, I don't know.
I imagine that this painting of Ubuntu owes its name to this project in part, since it follows a very «mac» aesthetic.
An excellent distribution for its simplicity and well-kept interface, I already have it installed on my laptop.
"From freedom came the elegance" ... that was the motto of Linux Mint 10 I think
Exactly ... but it seemed to me that it also applied to this case ... or at least
Dante tried that.
A hug! Paul.

I was testing it for a couple of days (the Office version). I find it an interesting project in the sense that it gives users a comfortable and colorful experience of the power of linux. As it is based on Ubuntu 10.10 there is enough documentation to get the most out of it, a positive experience I had with this distro was that many programs that I install in any distro already come by default and without worrying about dependencies (which is not that difficult to type a line in terminal, but it helps a lot to new ones).
Regarding stability, curiously I had no problems with Compiz + emerald that I have with Ubuntu 10.10 (the title of the window does not refresh when you change the tab) and so with other small bugs (without importance) that you had to fix at once gedit 😉
So we have that this distro already includes several "nice" elements that makes users dare to try linux.
The only bad thing I see is that by default they block desktop options to customize it to your liking (remove the worst idea in the world called global menu: p), it is not difficult to unlock it, but a new user would not know that they have to use gconf -editor, for example. But beyond this trifle the distro is very good.
A big thank you to Dante for contributing to free software with this great work.
YORDI Use the Internet download manager..and increase your speed 18 times… I mean more than 1mb per second
