Ubuntu 10.10 Alpha 2 is out

Ubuntu 10.10 alpha 2 has just come out with a significant amount of changes from alpha 1.

What's new Old man?

Bye aptitude. It is still available in the repositories but it is no longer installed by default.

Gnome 2.31 (development version), with new functionalities, for example the sound indicator. Now, by clicking on the menu icon, it is possible to stop the sound reproduction in a specific application in an easy and intuitive way, for example pausing the Rhythmbox sound reproduction, etc.

Ubuntu Software Center renovated. Nautilus-like design.

In addition, a microblogging section was added where we can give our opinion on the applications.

In its edition for Netbooks incorporates Unity by default.

This version of Ubuntu uses the kernel 2.6.35 (2.6.35-6.7). On the other hand, Canonical has decided that this version of Ubuntu will not support processors lower than i686.

Lastly, while the EXT4 file system remains the default, support was added for the system BTRFS (available in Alternate and Server edition), which will allow the management of subvolumes in our disk partition (several installations in the same partition). Although the latter is still in the testing phase.

Hey! Before trying it, don't forget that it is a development version, so it can be risky to install it on work teams. In any case, I recommend that you try it using a virtual machine. 🙂

Well well, I will be impatient waiting for the stable 10.10 version, to see what new features it brings, at the moment 10.04 is going quite well, removed a minor mishap, everything else is luxurious, to see what surprises 10.10 brings us. Cheers
