Add a terminal like Plasmoid to your KDE desktop

This is a tip that I personally find very interesting.

I find thanks to KDE-Look.org this plasmoid that allows us to have a terminal always on our desktop:

As you can see, it is a plasmoid (widget, applet) that is located on our KDE desktop, whose function is simply to be a terminal, just like any other that we open in the system.

Here is the complete screenshot:

To achieve this simply download the plasmoid:

Then we must install it, either through right click on panel + Panel options + Add graphic elements + Get graphic elements + Install from local (as I show in the following screenshot):

Or using a terminal ... the procedure would be simple the same.

Suppose the plasmoid was downloaded in the folder / home / me / Downloads, well ... open a terminal and type the following and press [enter]:

cd $HOME/Downloads && plasmapkg -i plasmacon.plasmoid

And voila 😀

Then they can add it as they would add any other plasmoid, you know ... right click on desktop, then add graphic elements, and there they look at the bar for one called plasmacon.

The author of this plasmoid is iduhasti ... Thank you very much for this contribution, and the others you have made ... of which I will speak on another occasion 😀

And nothing more to add ...

I hope you find it interesting.

regards

It's very good, sorry that I no longer use kde. Thanks for sharing, greetings!

Brother, I tell you that I was just looking for something like that. I was finally able to create an activity in KDE in which only the console appears. I downloaded the plasmoid and followed your instructions without any problem. I'm going to use this activity for the things I like to do on the terminal: surf the web using links2, listen to music using mplayer, play ninvaders or sudoku, or pacman4console, anyway ...

    regards

Thanks for the tip, but it is more comfortable for me to use Yakuake in Kde or Guake in Gnome.

      Hi 😀
Yes indeed, Yakuake will serve us for the same, sometimes for much more. However, it is always good to provide all the options, which is precisely why I comment on this plasmoid, the more options the user knows, the better it will be for everyone 😀

Hello, forgive my ignorance. I have read the article slowly and in the end I am left with the question of what is this for if I can open a terminal as usual. Perhaps it is that I am not giving a suitable use to this or that I do not finish seeing all the advantages of linux. I use SL KDE.

Juan, it is true that in the strict sense the plasmoid of the terminal is not "necessary", since, as you say, you can open the terminal and that's it. But it all depends on the tastes and needs of each person. I use the terminal a lot, not only to administer the system, but also to entertain myself. Having an activity in KDE dedicated to the terminal works very well for me. One of the things I like about KDE is being able to have specialized workspaces for everything you do frequently. So I like that one of those activities is an always open terminal. The possibilities are many: you can have, for example, an activity with various plasmoids on the desktop: view of folders, applications, weather, and you can also have the terminal at hand and always open. In short, it is a possibility.

          regards

ahhhh, sure, but that's with KDE's new option to have activities instead of workspaces. I still use KDE 4.3.4 and I don't use that new concept. Thank you very much Jotaele for the clarification!
