Applications to reinforce English in Archlinux (and other distros)

Article taken from our Forum and published by Wada:

A while ago I read the post of dwarf that he complained because they didn't help him and I don't know what else ... But he mentioned something that a computer scientist should not miss: English proficiency, You have to learn it yes or yes, there is no other and as he said elav is to make you want 🙂

So taking advice from a teacher years ago […] When you don't know a word in English, look it up in an English dictionary, not a translator […] I started looking for alternatives for the terminal and I found 2 very interesting ones.

It is possible that these packages are also in your favorite distribution, but in this case we take Arch Linux as an example
sudo pacman -S wtf

WTF is an application that "translates" acronyms for us

sudo pacman -S sdcv

And the database

yaourt -S stardict-wordnet

StarDict is a dictionary for the terminal (it also has a graphical interface) with the dictionary wordnet.

sdcv_terminal

There is a wonderful program called Artha, an English language thesaurus. It offers meanings, synonyms and much more, it hides in the system tray and can be called with a combination of keys.

My English is very poor and the truth ..., it only helps me to understand common people well and not technical language, and even worse if the guides are poorly explained ..., to explain you have to have a gift ...
Maybe one day I'll get into English, but I have more desire to learn German and Japanese XD

With wishing you will not learn. at least the application that is discussed here and that clearly the author undertook the task of searching is a valid attempt to know the language

It's just what I was looking for XD, and for those who are just starting out with English I recommend Duolingo is the best in my opinion

Very good, but I think it's taking me more work to remember the 4 letters of the command than the words I'm learning hahaha

After a year of publishing this entry I can not say anything other than ... «excellent», especially for me because of my job I am always on the hunt for a good free dictionary. At least since I met Stardict I stopped thinking and installing Wine.
