Archlinux 2012.07.15: goodbye to the old installer

While Arch it's a distro rolling release, it comes in handy from time to time to have one ISO Fresh with the latest packages and system updates included.

Recently Arch had several changes that required user intervention to be able to update without problems. With the new ISO, the changes are already incorporated by default, so for those who had many problems it may be a good idea to install this new version ... which has some news.

Arch Linux, the distro that focuses on the highly debatable KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) concept reached version 2012.07.15 a few days ago.

According to the Arch Linux developers, there is only one major change in this release: the AIF (the Arch Installation Framework) will no longer be included; instead, simple scripts are provided to facilitate the installation process.

For those who do not know, the AIF (the Arch Installation Framework) is the terrifying-looking blue menu that we all know, a menu that either badly or has helped us to install Arch Linux for a long time and that when it disappears, we it leaves you alone with the option to install Arch Linux through some "simple installation scripts" and that will possibly scare more than one novice user when trying to install Arch Linux on their computer.

This new Arch Linux ISO image comes signed with the pacman package verification system and it is recommended to check it through the .sig file that can be downloaded directly from the Arch Linux download page, before being used to install distribution on your computer, and thus guarantee the quality of it.

To verify the signature in Arch Linx, you can do so by running the following command:

pacman-key -v < iso-file >.sig

The Arch Installation Framework was removed from the distribution because there was no one to continue to maintain and develop it.

Here there are more details on the scripts that should be run now.

Archlinux seems to be going back to its roots of ideas based on http://www.crux.nu bad for new new users and a matter of getting used to advanced users

In my opinion the scripts are better, I have already installed this new version, with this same method and it works great …….

I'm already testing it even though I feel it was much easier with the old installer but hey we have to evolve! 🙂

I use arch, for programming, and because no distro performs better with modern hardware like arch. That's it.
Difficult? I would say pastry chefs to your cakes ...

    Cheers

During these holidays I was finally thinking of trying arch, I had the old image and when I finally got an ethernet cable to put a graphic environment on it I found an error, which would not let me update, in my despair I gave up and started to reread the official page until I find the reason for that .. I downloaded the image again but now it turns out that the usb does not start I get a syslinux error that says something like "I could boot kernel" and the truth is that I have already tried everything: Yes someone knows why. In the wiki it says that you must verify the image with a "pacman -key" I don't know what .. but the problem is that the other computer where I have access is windows and then I can't do anything T_T because the universal boot like unebooting always ends in the same error .. and apparently the error at the end is a certain "wychis.c3"

Personally, it is preferable to invest a little more time in the installation and ensure a more or less stable system for a longer or shorter time than an OS like Win which, fixed, fixed to fix it, there is nothing else but to reinstall it. Anyway, everything with Arch is a matter of searching a bit, because it is not something at the level of programming, but not of the type "Next, next, accept".

Archlinux, it is not difficult to install or configure, it has extensive documentation on the wiki, but to work seriously with it it is very unstable, no company would be happy to be paying an administrator to make a pacman -Syu and reconfigure the confiles . on the other hand, knowing Archlinux does not exactly mean that knowing how to administer all the other distributions is a sham, each distribution has its own package system and its own initiation system.

Mate, send a message to the readers of Desde Linux (I sense from your comment that you read, and your nickname rings a bell) from me.

You have to face what happens, you knew what would happen. I'm not going to come back no matter how much people insist, because I can't do that. I am not welcome there.

We have to move on from the issue that I am not here, I remember, no one is vital to the site although it may seem otherwise.

Now I think that less will have acceptance for those who start using Gnu / linux.
    Before it was easier

Like me, I have not managed to install a distribution by netinstall.
Arch = Dependencies, Debian = Always throwing bugs at me everywhere and gentoo behaves very well in that regard.

Arch installation is not difficult (with the guide), as Courage says: (greetings) "it takes a little more time", I love Arch in my almost year of GNU / linux as it gives me everything I need , KISS, pacman is awesome …….
I think many changes are coming and this is not serious, but of course by following the wiki everything becomes easier and if there are not the forums where you also learn and help

The problem with the Arch installation is that it is long, but it allows you to put only what you want, being able to get the most out of your computer.

But that that is difficult is a myth like a large cathedral

  13.   Courage said

For you it is not easy so it is not easy, I know you.

You don't feel like learning, period.

You are a programmer, you know Linux, you use it for not using Windows,
you use it for the text editor, you like to have the layout updated (
it is true Arch is the one that is the best for that and his policy regarding
minimalist, it is something that only people who are to waste time accept it, yes
users would be smarter would ask for a more installation
custom that lets you have the system ready once the installation is finished,
for something is it an installation or am I wrong? I don't care how complicated
whatever the installation, the important thing is efficient is the installation)

For me it is not easy because not all of us have an internet connection and that is one of the flaws of archlinux, instead distros like linux mint, ubuntu, mandriva will take the lead because with or without internet I already have applications to start doing my work .

  16.   Courage said

The same thing that I said to the other colleague.

I think Arch is still easier than what they tell us, (especially ubuntosos).

Arch is not difficult, it just takes a tad more time.

Whoever wants something has a hard time partner, there is no more.

And still I don't think it's sooooo difficult

@ google-2dbe1768f380e06c632e48dac8f555db, I see nothing wrong with it becoming a distro for experienced users only. Anyway, it already is, just before novice users were scared after the installation, now they will do it before.

  19.   alexander turcios said

Just like you wrote, this will only scare away those new to linux, it will become a distro for experienced users.

I liked the installer that I liked the most and all that was the one from December 200, the others that they took out later I liked less.

The same is that he was used to the other
