Australis: the new Firefox interface comes to GNU / Linux

Australis is the new interface that proposes Mozilla for Firefox and it can already be tested in GNU / Linux without the need for an extension (it was about time ..) thanks to the latest development versions.

To use and test the new interface we must download Firefox from this link and then update it by clicking on Help »About UX.

This version should not be used in Production Environments. Use at your own risk 😛

If we have the updates disabled by default, we click the button Check for Updates: Check for updates (Right now I don't remember how it comes out in Spanish) 😛

And voila .. If I have noticed that at least with the topic QtCurve which I am using now, the tabs show a little mismatch in the gradient .. but otherwise everything works perfect ..

interesting ... how are you doing with the nightly version? there are not many hangs or the like? I ask you why there are features that I would like to try but I don't know whether to leave the stable for the nightly

    1.    elav said

I've been using the Nightly since version 20 and so far zero hangs up.

And why don't you install both?

Australis is an interface designed in GTK or made with its own libraries? Because if it is the latter, it will surely integrate better with all environments (GTK / QT), as is the case with Chrome

I was just going to ask the same thing. I like how firefox looks now, because it adapts to the rest of the environment. Will it stay the same?

Although Firefox is an excellent browser, I believe that in recent times they have not managed to take the right course to grow their user share. they have taken missteps and perhaps this new look is another misstep for firefox.
Firefox still has a fairly large community of users, in them is the key to its success or failure .. the community is everything .. hopefully this community can save the browser .. trying to direct Moziila to develop something that he really likes, innovate and capture the interest and acceptance of internet users.
I am a humble Opera user, I look forward to the version of Opera with webkit.

What happens is that Mozilla's are more focused on the development of their OS for mobile devices and on improving Firefox for these devices since that is where the market is.

It seems that desktop users have taken a bit of a backseat. Pity.

Dear, Firefox is not a company, so it does not have a market share, but users. Regards.

At no time did I mention anything about market share, better learn to read before writing an answer!

Note that I spend Firefox because I have been using Chromium for a long time but something happens in Chrome / Chromium that does not in Firefox: DOES NOT WORK the pronunciation of words in translate.google.com.

How can it happen !? That is…
Oh right, because Firefox is produced by Google and Google Chrome / Chromium is not.
Or was it the other way around! / Oh wait… FUCK !!!

Firefox is not a fox. It is called Ailurus and it is a kind of panda. Google it. 😀

      1.    msx said

Ahhh, that must be why the browser lacks intelligence!
I already said that it could not be that in such a short time Chromium / Chrome became an entrepreneurial development, at least equal to FF and even better in some aspects 😀

Now speaking seriously: "firefox" is an English term that refers to the red panda but in the case of Mozilla's browser it has absolutely nothing to do with it since "Firefox" or "Fire Fox" is the name that evolved After they could not use for various reasons neither "Phoenix" nor "Firebird", not in vain the logo of the browser is a fox and not a panda.

Whoever wrote the post on T! did not understand anything, poor thing.

Well, let's see how it will look in osx, but for now I'll stick with opera and safari

Hopefully it will integrate well with Kde, although now I am testing QupZilla as I recommend elav, the truth is that it has much less consumption than firefox, and it is fully integrated with Kde4, in addition to being able to change the User Agent without the need for any plugin.

    regards

Oxygen-gtk + Australis, is even more horrible than the current appearance. It's a shame.

Compa, you should have made a reference to my Master and namesake Gespadas who was the source from where we have all seen, whether it was via G +, Twiiter or Blog, this Firefox Nightly with Australis 😉

Can the search engine be changed by clicking where it says "Google" (with its logo) the same as in the current search bar?
It was something that had me worried because I really use the search bar a lot by changing the search engine frequently, and I thought that by removing the specialized search bar, in the general bar I would simply search using the default engine ...
Does anyone confirm to me that it can be used as I say? By the way, what desktop environment is the capture from?

    1.    Dark purple said

Good grief, but I just installed this and it looks little like the image. I still have the search bar for a lifetime, and the global menu in Firefox is the first tab, which appears when you hide the menu bar.
In short, the only thing that has changed me is the download manager and the shape of the tabs.

      1.    elav said

LOL. The problem is that the Firefox menu I moved to the right side with an extension called UI Fixer.

        1.    Dark purple said

And is the single bar also a thing of the UI Fixer?

          1.    elav said

Nope. Omnibar is called the addons.
