Banshee, Tomboy and Mono will no longer come by default in Ubuntu 12.04

The news was confirmed during the recap session of the Ubuntu Developer Summit (UDS).

However Banshee does not go alone, Tomboy will also be removed as the default application in the CD. Both will be easily maintained installable from the Ubuntu Software Center for those who prefer to use them.

Thus, there is no longer any software that requires or depends on the controversial Mono, Microsoft's open source implementation of .NET, for a long time. discussed and analyzed on this blog.

Instead of Banshee an old acquaintance will appear, Rhythmbox, which has two huge advantages:

1.- It doesn't depend on software that takes up so much space on the ISO;

2.- If it has been ported to Gtk + 3, not if Banshee who is still written in Gtk + 2.

In this way, Banshee will no longer be the default player in Ubuntu 12.04, and it has already been confirmed that Rythmbox returns. Tomboy also disappears, which in principle will be replaced by Gnote and by extension the "evil" Monkey disappears.

Our friend Stallman must be uncorking and Miguel de Icaza must be pulling his hair.

    It was one of the first blog posts (so some things are already a bit outdated, but the idea is the same):
    http://usemoslinux.blogspot.com/2010/02/que-es-mono-y-por-que-puede-ser.html
    Summary: Mono is a platform to develop and run .NET applications on Linux and other systems. Its use is highly contested because it could infringe Microsoft patents, which can become a lawsuit against Mono and, therefore, against programs developed in / for Mono.
