Canonical needs your help to test Nvidia support for Ubuntu 18.04 and 18.10

NVIDIA

Canonical's Will Cooke has invited members of the Ubuntu Linux community to participate in a testing program that he intends to enhance the experience for Nvidia graphics card users with proprietary or open source controller.

Canonical is looking for users with a computer with Nvidia graphics interested in test with the proprietary driver and the Nouveau open source graphics driver both on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Bionic Beaver and the upcoming Ubuntu 18.10 Cosmic Cuttlefish and report any issues that may be found.

"We are looking for volunteers who want to test Nvidia's proprietary and open source drivers. The goal is to find errors early in the cycle and correct them before they reach a larger audience. They are available for Ubuntu 18.04 and 18.10 on laptop or PC”Says Cooke, director of Canonical.

Here's how you can help find problems with your Nvidia card

If you are interested in participating, you will need to have a computer with an Nvidia graphics card, a small space on your hard drive to install the Ubuntu 18.10 and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS test image, and an active internet connection. If you can resize your current partition you can also run a "live" test.

You will also need to have a Launchpad account as this will publish data that will be publicly available. For that you will have to enter the tracker found on this page with your Launchpad credentials. Once you're in, add yourself to the participant list and that's it. Now is the time for testing.

I have dual intel + nvidia hybrid graphics on a Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 laptop, core i7, 8GB RAM, GT525M, does it also apply to test Optimus support with Nvidia-Prime or Bumblebee? Thank you

    Hello Carlos Alberto,

You can effectively help by testing with your laptop. It does not matter as long as it is an Intel-Nvidia hybrid with Prime or Bumblebee. The point is that we deliver as many reports as possible so that we can facilitate Canonical's testing work and provide a solution as soon as possible.
