CDLibre: compilations of free programs ready to distribute

cdlibre.org is a website where you can find open source software all types. Inside of the catalog we can find astronomy software, audio, databases, browsers, ftp clients, educational software, games, programming, and many more.

While there is software for different platformsIs basically Windows oriented, since, as we all know, in Linux it is always better to use the package manager of our distro.

For each application, a brief description of it, language, platform where it runs, license, download page, among other information is shown.

In addition to this, on the same website you can find several DVDs / CDs with compilations of the published applications.

A good software repository not only for Linux, as there are applications for Windows and cross-platform (Java). To keep in mind… especially for those who couldn't get rid of Windows or those who want to start "evangelizing" those who still use Windows.

uh! I remember free cd. At one time I distributed it to my students, like a missionary who is "sowing the word" :-). Do you want to use free software? Start here. a hug

It's a good point… I agree. Luckily, now there are many websites of this style, but before they were not so common. However, this is unique in that you can download a whole CD with software for certain things (audio, games, office automation, etc.). hug! Paul.

There are already websites with a wide index of free software for Windows, for example the well-known Softonic:

    http://www.softonic.com/s/software-libre

CDLibre, as it is presented, does not bring anything new except the compilation of software on a CD / DVD (which Softonic also has, if I am not mistaken), and I cannot imagine why someone wants gigabytes of applications that they will never use, but to tinker .

In my opinion, I believe that it was never about evangelizing but about using the most appropriate tool, be it private or free. This attitude of promoting Linux by crushing the opposite seems to me just as base as Microsoft itself. If you don't like Windows, get rid of it but don't use it as a throwing tool.

there are still many people without connectivity or very limited connectivity. When you talk to them about free sw and they don't know anything about it, a good entry is open office, firefox, gimp, etc. Did you like those shows? use them on the right platform and you will do even better. There are many more social realities, not just the geek.

I don't know what part of "geek" my comment has, as I said, a CD with hundreds of applications is only good for messing around. Firefox for someone without connectivity? I do not understand it and it is where I wanted to go, if you need a certain application you install it and period and do not dedicate yourself to looking at the moral part, if it is free or not. Currently the updates or extras of the applications are very tied to the Internet and a fixed support usually becomes out of date at the same moment that it has been recorded, and more if we talk about Linux.

Yes ... There are many truths in what you say. Anyway, don't forget that these cds compile soft for windows. It is a small step for those who do not know the soft. Free to know it and know that it is not illegal to download and install it.
    Cheers! Paul.
