Chakra Curie: Troubleshooting post-installation

Current Status of Chakra Linux

Well, as I am not good at doing "news" post in short, what I will tell you is that Chakra He was going through various problems, from which he is now recovering. As a follow-up of what was happening, I leave you a series of posts, published by Malcer (Caledonian author and member of the Chakra Linux).

You can see the links here (Malcer is currently re-involved with Chakra, and is part of the team: D), here y here.

For those with knowledge of English, you can see the dev-lists, in particular this thread in which the crash of the main server was handled Chakra.

Chakra Linux currently resides in www.chakraos.org, where among other things you can check the status of all Chakra services. As of today, it looks like this:

Curie Chakra

As a personal note, I am going to say that lately I find myself very involved (so much that I am in the dev list xD) with Chakra Linux. Basically because it's a distro that I've always liked. Unfortunately, due to their policies regarding the treatment of GTK applications, tiny things like not being able to install the appmenu-gtk to achieve a perfect integration with the type of desktop that I use and others, I always ended up leaving.

Chakra It is offered as a distribution that as soon as you finish installing it is completely free of GTK and then activating the repo extracompiling your own packages (either through individual packages or through a Local Repository) it is possible to install both applications GTK like qt. I personally love the idea that they give me a free base of GTK, Focused on KDE and what then I can do whatever I want with the system.

However, the downside is that the current iso of Chakra (Cure) It has been outdated due to all the server moves that have been made and, in addition, it presents a couple of annoying bugs (they have already been reported, so the next iso of Chakra looks like it's going to come really good), so for all you Chakra Linux who want to start in this distro, here I am going to show you how to solve these problems, to enjoy a Curie Chakra al 100%.

I have already reported these bugs, and they will be solved in the next iso of Chakra Linux

As soon as they finish installing Curie Chakra The first thing they will notice is that if they try to login, without clicking on your username on the login screen, no matter how much they enter the password, they will get a error.

Login error:

error-login-curie

How to log in (temporarily, below is the solution):

login-curie

First you have to click on the user before entering the password.

In my particular case, this caused strange permissions problems (apparently it even affected the keys that raised and lowered the brightness). I guess this was because after I fixed it, all the permission issues and weird stuff started working perfectly. The solution consists of creating a directory that in the iso Curie it is not created by default and assign it the correct permissions:

1) Creating the directory for the KDM

sudo mkdir /var/lib/kdm

2) Assign owner and group to directory

sudo chown kdm:kdm /var/lib/kdm

3) We restart the machine (it does not serve only to re-login)

4) We open krunner (alt + f2), write: «kdm» and choose «Access screen», we go to the «Users» tab and in «User Images» we select our user, then we assign an image to it, and click in "apply", it will ask us for the root password, and then to accept

kdm-fix

Ready. With this we resolve the issue of KDM, and the issue of permissions.

Now, you are going to notice that when you want to update the system ...

sudo pacman -Syu

… Get the following error:

bug-chakra

This error is due to the migration of the servers. What we are going to do is edit our mirror list to add the server you recommend www.chakraos.org:

sudo nano /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

And above the first line, we add the recommended server

line to add: "Server = http://rsync.chakraos.org/$repo/x86_64"

... remaining our mirror list As follows:

chakra-mirrorlist

Now, we proceed to update our system:

sudo pacman -Syu

As you can see, we already have the repos working, and we will say "yes" to everything that asks us (you will see that it says that there are local versions more recent than the repos, that is because one of the bugs is that Curie brings a series of packages that are not yet in the stable repos, because they are being tested)

Well, with this, they can already have a Curie Chakra, fully functional, greetings! 😀

Great contribution, Tete, essential as long as the new iso with the corrected links does not come out.

what about everything? xD, I am in Descartes and the login is solved, the repos there are still some problems from time to time, for 2 weeks I have not experienced repo problems, apparently they were thinking of changing hosting, because it has quite annoying this situation xD
